Fans of the Final Fantasy series have been eagerly awaiting more news about the upcoming second part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The first part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which debuted in April 2020, quickly became one of the fastest selling games for the PlayStation 4, while the expanded PlayStation 5 release Final Fantasy Remake Intergrade also sold and reviewed well. While the official Remake Twitter did not have any news to share, it did take the time to celebrate an important anniversary of a fellow Square Enix franchise.Kingdom Hearts, another major Square Enix franchise, celebrated its 20th anniversary on March 28. 20 years ago, the first game was released in Japan for the PlayStation 2, with a Western release following in the fall of the same year. Since then, there have been two more main series Kingdom Hearts games released, as well as a myriad of spinoff titles including the card battler Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, the mobile title Kingdom Hearts Union X, and the rhythm game Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. The series has become popular for its unique combination of original characters and settings with those from classic Disney films and Final Fantasy games.RELATED: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Shares Details On In-Game Loveless MusicalTo celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, the official Twitter account of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Tweeted a piece of official art featuring protagonist Cloud Strife looking up at the heart-shaped moon that represents the titular concept of Kingdom Hearts. This tribute is especially heartwarming as several Final Fantasy 7 characters have appeared in various Kingdom Hearts titles, with Cloud himself appearing as an ally in Kingdom Hearts 2 and his iconic nemesis Sephiroth starring as a notoriously difficult optional boss encounter in several games. Previously, the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter had celebrated the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 7 with art showing protagonist Sora in a Cloud-inspired pose.

While March 28 officially marks 20 years since Kingdom Hearts released, developer Square Enix will be celebrating the anniversary with an event in Tokyo on April 10. The event will include a mini concert featuring music from throughout the series, new exclusive merchandise, and multiple announcements, possibly including information on the rumored Kingdom Hearts 4. The developer also plans to continue celebrating the series anniversary throughout 2022, with announcements and news coming all year long. So far, it has released multiple Kingdom Hearts titles for the Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming.

Some fans of Final Fantasy 7 may be disappointed that this celebratory tweet did not include a release date announcement for Part 2 of the remake. However, fans of the franchise should not be too disappointed just yet. Currently, many theorize that Square Enix is saving the Remake Part 2 announcement for the upcoming E3 event, as E3 was also where the first part of the Remake was initially showcased.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
