Final Fantasy 7 Remake from 2020 only covers the first part of the party's journey. In the interim between the true sequel in this remake saga, Square Enix brought fans a PS5 upgrade to last year's JRPG. Included in the package is a new DLC episode, INTERmission, starring Yuffie Kisaragi.

While a relatively short experience, it is filled with details and bonus goodies, particularly for longtime fans of the series. The ten details below probably went by unnoticed to those who have not played the original PS1 game, or spin-offs from before 2020. Veteran fans, on the other hand, got more than they expected from Yuffie's journey through Midgar.

10 The Moogle Hat Is From Dirge Of Cerberus

Yuffie ladder INtermission

Yuffie shows up in the DLC wearing a cape with a moogle top. This outfit is nowhere to be seen in the original Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1, but those who played Dirge of Cerberus will immediately recognize it.

Dirge of Cerberus is admittedly not the strongest of the extended Final Fantasy 7 media. However, it still earns commendation for still being the most recent game canonically, taking place even after the animated film Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children.

9 The Guy In The Truck Is Choco Bill

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Choco Bill cameo

The ending cinematic sees Cloud Strife and the party hitch a ride with a guy in a truck hauling several Chocobo. This is most certainly Choco Bill, a breeder who first introduces Cloud to breeding and capturing Chocobo in the 1997 classic.

Later in the original game players, spend a lot of time there trying to breed a gold chocobo. Many fans wonder how the breeding will work in the future, if it is a feature at all.

8 Weiss Is From Dirge Of Cerberus

Yuffie DLC Intergrade Intermission Daman Mills voice actor

Weiss The Immaculate shows up in a couple of scenes, sending his brother Nero the Sable to take out Yuffie and Sonon. Both of these characters are the main antagonists from Dirge of Cerberus.

These two characters' roles in the INTERmission DLC came as particularly surprising. To bring characters from Dirge of Cerberus into the picture shows Square is using every part of the compilation of Final Fantasy 7.

7 Da-Chao Beans Are A Reference To The Water God

Da-chao beans are a huge source of comedy in the DLC, with any non-Wutains busting their teeth on them as they bite. The name of these beans come from the water god in Wutai.

The statue of this particular god is etched into a mountain in Wutai, which plays a big part in the Yuffie side quest from the original game.

6 Yuffie's Balancing Problem Is In Other Games Too

Sonon and yuffie

Yuffie seems to have trouble keeping her balance. Her victory poses in INTERmission often show her stumbling around. Additionally, several cutscenes feature her losing her balance and falling from great heights. She also has a weak stomach for heights and smells in general

In the original game she gets motion sickness, and in Advent Children she gags a bit after making a grand entrance. It must be tough for her having to deal with all the movement during fights.

5 The Fort Condor Minigame Is Based On An Earlier Minigame

FF 7 remake fort condor beginning of a match

Fort Condor is the main side quest in the INTERmission DLC. Played with many of the residents from Sector 7, it is a board game where Yuffie must use her deployed units to destroy the opponent's headquarters while also defending her own.

This is based off the side quest from the PS1 game where Cloud defends the fort from Shinra Soldiers with another strategy title. Fans now wonder how the actual Fort Condor quest will play out.

4 Deepground Is Also From Dirge Of Cerberus

The last section of the DLC sees Yuffie fighting a group called Deepground. These soldiers are more than the regular Shinra troops from the main game. They are a top secret group of Shinra soldiers, and they play a huge part in Dirge of Cerberus.

Seeing them here implies they will also play a part in future games of the remakes, perhaps making the third-person shooter spin-off more relevant than before.

3 Yuffie Hums Her Theme & The Chocobo Theme

The DLC starts with the camera panning down to reveal Yuffie, while she hums a playful melody. Fans of the series should immediately recognize this as her theme.

At the end of the episode while riding a chocobo out of Midgar, she is humming the chocobo theme, which is already prominently featured in the main game. Despite Wutai's obvious east-asian inspiration, this theme sounds more like an upbeat country/western tune.

2 The Party Visits Kalm After Leaving Midgar

Kalm Traveler Final Fantasy VII

The last scene of INTERmission cuts back to Cloud and the party as they head to Kalm. In the original game, this is also where the party goes after Midgar.

This demonstrates that while the next games will certainly change a lot about the original classic, certain things will remain recognizable. While it is a small town, players end up visiting it several times over in the original game because of side quests.

1 Happy Turtle Flyer Collecting Resembles A Side Quest From The Original

Aside from the Fort Condor board game, the other main side quest in INTERmission tasks Yuffie with finding several flyers for the Happy Turtle.

In the original release, Cloud also has to locate several posters for a resort in Wutai called Turtle's Paradise. The only difference is the Turtle's Paradise flyers are scattered all over the world, while Yuffie just has to snoop around Sector 7.
