Fans had long been expecting that Final Fantasy 7 Remake would get a PS5 upgrade, but despite this, the reveal of Intergrade still came as a surprise. While most fans were thrilled by some of the new features being added with this version of the game, others noticed some peculiar complications. These, paired with the stipulations placed on those players that got the game for free on PS Plus, all combined to make a very odd situation. Fans were left with tons of questions, and while most of them have been answered by now, there's one major implication that has yet to be addressed.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake initially released as a PS4 exclusive, and with the PS5 version coming out soon, that exclusivity has been extended. It's still possible that the games will come to other consoles some day, but for the time being, PlayStation owners are the only ones that get to relive Cloud's story. The situation with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade could actually be a really bad sign for PS4 owners, particularly when it comes to the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 that is set to take the story beyond the walls of Midgar.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS5

Although this wasn't clear at first, all of the features that come with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade are PS5 exclusive. This means that PS4 players still won't be able to make use of cool things like the performance and graphics mode, or the photo mode. It's important to note that, while PS4 players will get a free upgrade to the PS5 version, they still cannot play it without a PS5. In this way, Intergrade is really a separate game altogether, not an update that has some extra benefits for PS5 players.

This is made even more confusing by the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake as a free PS Plus game back in March. PS4 players could get the title for free, but it came with the added restriction that those games would not be eligible for the PS5 upgrade. This means that these players will still have to buy the full game of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade if they want to play it on PS5 with the new features. This in and of itself wouldn't be a huge issue, but then fans learned about the restrictions on the new Yuffie DLC.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Yuffie DLC Exclusivity

As it happens, the DLC that introduces fan-favorite character Yuffie and takes the story one more step forward before the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is only available to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade players. Those on PS4 are out of luck when it comes to the DLC, and this is why players are starting to worry about the fate of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. At this point, it seems highly likely that the other parts of the game will only be available on PS5.

This would definitely be a strange decision, as the original game was a PS4 exclusive at first. Despite this, there's a real chance that players won't be able to see any of the story past the first part on PS4. Given how difficult it is for players to get a PS5 at the moment thanks to supply shortages and scalpers, this could keep a lot of players out. Keep in mind that this is just speculation, and Square Enix hasn't made any official statements about what platforms Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will be available on, but it seems unlikely that just the Yuffie DLC would be PS5 exclusive and nothing else.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now on PS4, and Intergrade releases on June 10th for PS5.
