One of the most surprising elements about this PS5 re-release of Final Fantasy VII Remake is the inclusion of Yuffie in DLC. Many fans weren’t expecting Yuffie to show up until the next game since in the original version she can be found just outside of Junon. Her getting into Midgar now raises some questions on who else could be added earlier than expected.

Some fan theories seem to think Cid might make it into Junon as that’s where players first see his Airship, the Highwind. While that is cool to think about there are more pressing matters on where this DLC episode leaves off. There will naturally be spoilers ahead for both the DLC content as well as the main campaign.

8 How Did Yuffie Get To Midgar?

Yuffie from Final Fantasy VII Remake

This isn’t a big question that weighs down the plot but fans might be wondering how Yuffie got to Midgar. Wutai is an island nation far off the coast of Midgar. There were only two port cities in the original game. Junon is on the same continent as Midgar and Costa Del Sol is on the opposite continent. It is safe to assume that the remake series will add new towns to help flesh out the world such as a closer port city Yuffie could have to by boat.

7 Yuffie’s Team And The Future Remakes

“Don’t think I can do this alone, the amazing Yuffie wants you, join her team and the sky’s the limit.” That’s the last line Yuffie says at the end of the game which seemingly sets things up for a video game wherein she is recruiting nameless characters to join her fight. Would Square Enix be ambitious enough to make a Destiny-like games-as-a-service spinoff to the remake series? Her line could have been just a joke, but that hasn’t stopped fans from theorizing radical ideas like this.

6 Yuffie’s Father

Yuffie and Sonon from Final Fantasy VII Remake

There is a conversation in the game between Yuffie and Sonon wherein Yuffie’s father gets brought up. In the original game, he is waiting in Wutai for Yuffie to return. In this remake conversation, it seems like he is imprisoned by Shinra somewhere. With a line like that it would only make sense for Yuffie to stage a prison break for him. He was never a huge part of the original game as Wutai was an extra area as well as Yuffie being an extra character. Square Enix does seem to like the idea of expanding their original vision by fleshing out seemingly minor characters into bigger ones for the remake series so one can bet he will make a big splash at some point.

5 Sonon’s Past

Sonon from Final Fantasy VII Remake

Wutai was never really brought up in the original game aside from dealing with the side content related to Yuffie. It wasn’t until the spinoff sequel series that Square Enix started to create this bigger backstory between Shinra and Wutai fighting in a war. Based on what Sonon says in the game, it seems like he fought in this war and that’s how Melfi, his sister, dies. It’s a bit odd that Melfi and Yuffie look so similar. Is this a coincidence or are Sonon and Yuffie actually related?

4 Is Sonon Still Alive?

Another question about Sonon fans might be wondering is if he is still alive. He sacrifices himself to protect Yuffie from Nero’s knives and it would, at first, seem like he died. However, Nero envelops Sonon into a dark mist which could mean anything. His darkness powers were never really explained in Dirge of Cerberus, the PS2 spinoff game starring Vincent. Maybe his darkness powers can manipulate people and Sonon will appear once more but this time as a villain. The chances of that seem high.

3 What Happened To Zhijie’s Group?

Zhijie from Final Fantasy VII Remake

Zhijie, Polk, Nayo, and Billy Bob are four new characters introduced in Yuffie’s DLC for the remake. They seem to be part of Avalanche or at least a resistance group in league with Wutai. Whatever their true affiliation is, they were never seen in the original release of the remake. Does that mean they die after the plate crashes? They are in the sector where it happens. Since Sonon seems to be alive it would only make sense that these four, or at least one of them, will be seen again as well.

2 Zack And The Church

Zack in the church from Final Fantasy VII Remake

One of the most surprising moments of this re-release of the remake was the additional scenes featuring Cloud’s team and Zack. Nothing really happens with Cloud except for them meeting Choco Billy and the game confirming they are going to Kalm. Zack, on the other hand, is a real jaw-dropper.

He makes it into Midgar, prepares himself to see Aerith again at the church but instead finds it filled with moaning people. These could be survivors from the plane crash but that wouldn’t make sense as Zack should be in another timeline where that doesn’t happen. The other wild theory is that these characters are developing Geo Stigma, the disease featured in the Advent Children film. There is a scene in that film reminiscent of the one found here.

1 Deepground’s Future

Weiss from Final Fantasy VII Remake

Deepground is the organization Scarlet calls upon when she is backed into a corner by Yuffie and Sonon. In the original series, this group was not introduced until Dirge of Cerberus. It was a secret division of Shinra that only the President, Scarlet, Hojo, and Heidegger knew about. Now that Nero has been unleashed, will he, Weiss, and the other members break free? They still might be loyal to Shinra for now but only time will tell until the next part of this remake series comes out.
