To this day, it's still hard to believe that Final Fantasy VII Remake is a real game that people can own and play. The game seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream, with gamers believing for the longest time that the only way they could experience the magic of Final Fantasy VII once again was to replay the classic 1997 title.

The advent of Final Fantasy VII Remake allowed fans of this universe to enjoy the tale of Cloud and Co. once again, this time in an extended format as players ventured into the seedy underbelly of Midgar and took care of the threats that lay within. The new weapon abilities were definitely quite helpful in that regard, with Cloud's weapons allowing him to learn a bevy of powerful techniques that could dispatch most foes with the greatest of ease.

6 Nail Bat  — Disorder

Final Fantasy VII Remake's action based combat is a good fit for Scarlet Nexus fans

The Nail Bat is a unique weapon, with its Punisher Mode using a simple swing of the bat to deal massive damage. However, this can get somewhat irritating at times, and what makes it even worse is that the ability Cloud learns after mastering this weapon isn't even all that great.

Disorder is a powerful attack that allows players to switch attack modes and dish out damage in one smooth move. While this might sound great, the fact of the matter is that Disorder is nowhere near as powerful as some of the other moves in Cloud's arsenal, and the player is better off using their ATB for other moves that are way more useful in any given situation.

5 Twin Stinger — Counterstance

Cloud's Counterstance in Final Fantasy VII Remake

Given the absolute chaos that can happen in a battle in Final Fantasy VII Remake, one would assume that having the ability to counter a blow would be of prime importance. So, when the player finally manages to obtain the Twin Stinger in Chapter 17 and finds out that its Weapon Ability is an ability called Counterstance, it goes without saying that they would be beyond happy to finally have a move that can negate enemy damage along with a hefty dose of payback as well.

However, aside from some powerful enemies and bosses, Counterstance ends up being an incredibly situational move that players would probably never rely on in their playthrough. Enemies with ranged attacks or fast movement will be relatively safe from this counter, making this ability feel all the more useless as a result.

4 Buster Sword — Focused Thrust

Cloud's Focused Thrust in Final Fantasy VII Remake

The first weapon in Cloud's arsenal is the iconic Buster Sword, with the weapon wasting no time in showing people just how useful it really is with a weapon ability that is an absolute boon when it comes to staggering certain enemies.

Given how important it really is to stagger certain enemies in Final Fantasy VII Remake, it goes without saying that Focused Thrust will play a major role in ensuring that Cloud is able to stagger enemies with ease in the heat of battle. The damage of this move might not be anything special, but it's the utility of this move that turns it into one of the most frequently used attacks in Cloud's arsenal.

3 Mythril Saber — Blade Burst

Cloud's Blade Burst in Final Fantasy VII Remake

While the iconic Blade Beam attack might be missing in Final Fantasy VII Remake, there's an attack in the game that is very much inspired by this Limit Break — the Blade Burst. To obtain this Limit Break, the player must purchase the Mythril Saber in Chapter 14.

The Blade Burst is a magical ability that unleashes a cone of magic right in front of Cloud and damages any enemy that is caught in the blast. Not only is it a great ability to use on enemies with high physical defenses without having to waste any MP, but it also allows Cloud to remain at a safe distance while he launches this long-range attack.

It's an attack that kills two birds with one stone, turning it into one of the most useful abilities in the entire game.

2 Iron Blade — Triple Slash

Cloud's Triple Slash in Final Fantasy VII Remake

The Triple Slash is easily the ability that players will use the most in the game, for two reasons. Firstly, it's an ability that can be obtained fairly early on in the game, given the fact that the Iron Blade is the first weapon that players can obtain after the Buster Sword, with the sword unlocked in the third chapter itself.

The second reason why the Triple Slash is such a useful ability is due to the fact that the ability ends up covering a ton of ground over its three slashes, turning it into the perfect ability that players can use to clear mobs of enemies with the greatest of ease. While the damage on the second and third slashes is somewhat penalized, there's no denying that the Triple Slash is easily one of the best abilities that Cloud can use in battle.

1 Hardedge — Infinity's End

Cloud's Infinity's End ability from FFVII Remake

The Hardedge is one of the most physically powerful swords in the game, and one need only look at the massive damage potential of its weapon ability to understand why this is the case. At a glance, setting up Infinity's End may seem like too much work — after all, it's a move that requires two full ATB bars and has a very long setup, which can make it miss a lot of the time as well.

However, the fact that Infinity's End deals extra damage to staggered enemies is something that shouldn't be dismissed. If a player uses this move on a boss or enemy that's in a pressured state, then the amount of damage that is dealt is truly astronomical. Using this ability on bosses as a finishing touch never ceases to be satisfying, turning Infinity's End into the strongest Weapon Ability that Cloud can use in battle.
