This article will contain SPOILERS for Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7According to the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, a lot of other characters from related FF7 spin-offs aside from Zack Fair are teased to appear in the upcoming JRPG. The second part of this episodic FF7 remake is set to release in February 2024, with plenty of anticipation behind its release. Square Enix has been showing off plenty of details regarding this game, such as the Chocobo Farming mechanics in Rebirth along with its open-world and battle mechanics. Part of the game's story has also been detailed by Square Enix, which is set to include Zack Fair.

In Final Fantasy 7, Zack dies a hero before he arrives in Midgar, protecting Cloud in the process. This scene is the crux of Cloud's characterization in the original game, which was also depicted in the prequel, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7. Final Fantasy 7 Remake, however, sees Zack Fair surviving his tragic fate, and he is set to play a major role in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as a result. The director of Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, teases that Zack Fair won't be the only character from related spin-offs that players will get to see in the game.

In an interview with TechRaptor and Hamaguchi, the director was asked a few questions about the story, specifically Zack Fair's expanded role in Rebirth. According to Hamaguchi, Zack will play a bigger role in Rebirth compared to the original, which is why Crisis Core got a remake in 2022 to help familiarize new players with his character. Hamaguchi states that besides Zack, there are going to be other characters from Final Fantasy 7 spin-offs who will be appearing in Rebirth, though he was careful not to be specific about who would appear.

Without again providing any major spoilers, besides Zack, who was not in the original Final Fantasy VII but will be making an appearance here, there’s going to be other characters from FFVII spinoffs that will be appearing in Rebirth as well.

There are plenty of spin-off games that take place within Final Fantasy 7's universe, from prequels like Final Fantasy 7: Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and First Soldier, to one focused on the vampiric Vincent Valentine named Dirge of Cerberus. The Advent Children theatrical film would also introduce characters like Denzel and Kadaj. These spin-offs expanded the scope and lore of the original game and are collectively known as The Compilation of Final Fantasy 7.

Considering that Deepground is present in Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Intergrade DLC, there is a high chance that fans will get to see the organization and its associated antagonists in Rebirth. The Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 had teased that there was something big going on between Genesis and Deepground, but the plot threads were never resolved after the release of Crisis Core. With the upcoming release of Rebirth, many believe additions like this can help tie the overall narrative together in a cohesive way, along with being nice nods to the expanded universe.
