Following the release of the latest trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth during Summer Game Fest, some keen-eyed fans claimed to have spotted Cid's iconic airship, the Highwind, hiding in plain sight. As a result, Final Fantasy fans took to social media to post proof of their claims, and other fans agreed that the airship may make its debut in the upcoming PS5 release.

In the original version of Final Fantasy 7, the iconic airship known as the Highwind was named after its pilot and owner, the rugged and foul-tempered Cid Highwind, who joined the party during the latter half of the game's first disc. After stealing the Highwind from Shinra during the game's final act, the flying fortress was used by the main cast as their primary method of transportation to access most of the world, including the Northern Crater, the game's final challenge. Following the conclusion of Final Fantasy 7, the Highwind was decommissioned and replaced by Cid's next airship, the Shera. While neither Cid nor the Highwind appeared in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the upcoming entry in the saga may be when players will see the return of the most iconic airships in the Final Fantasy series.

On Reddit, a user named -Megaflare was one such Final Fantasy fan that claimed to have spotted the Highwind docked in the latest Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthtrailer shown at Summer Game Fest. According to their post on the r/FFVIIRemake subreddit, the Highwind appeared at around the 2:20 mark of the trailer, docked atop the harbor in Junon as it was in the original release. Though the airship may be difficult to see, -Megaflare pointed out that the Highwind was on the top left of the video, near the heads-up display. Upon closer inspection, one of the Highwind's top propellors and the front hull could be seen as the evening sunset loomed over Junon.

The r/FFVIIRemake post from -Megaflare received over 300 upvotes in under a day. In the comments, other users stated that they hope the Highwind and other scenes may appear in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Given the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will release on two Blu-ray discs, the possibilities are wide open for what events could be covered in relation to the original game.

But, most Final Fantasy fans chose to keep their expectations in check until the next chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 saga is released. However, given the cryptic messages from Square Enix that were made as a lead-up to Summer Game Fest, only time will tell what surprises and changes await players.
