Square Enix provides fans a small update on the development process of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, confirming which phase the title is currently in. With only weeks to go before the launch of Final Fantasy 16, Square Enix has seemingly been completely focused on getting players ready for release day. As launch approaches, fan attention now starts to turn back to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the next big piece of Square Enix's remake plans for the iconic title. News on the second entry has seemingly dried up as the last major reveal came nearly a year ago after the surprising debut trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth during Square Enix's 25th Anniversary Event. Since then, not much has been shared as producer Yoshinori Kitase attempted to quell fan expectations by saying more will be shared when the timing is right. With Final Fantasy 16 nearly here, it appears the wheels have started turning as Kitase is back once more answering questions on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's development. Quite simply, the question asks how development is progressing on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to which Kitase gave a short but positive response. Development on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continues on smoothly and according to plan. In fact, Kitase also revealed that the team is currently working on setting an actual release date for the game.

Considering that the Twitter account specifically labeled this reveal as "Developer comment number 1" it seems more than reasonable that Square Enix is readying additional developer insights to appear on the Final Fantasy 7 Twitter page at some point. Still, the small developer update seems to have satisfied more than a few fans based on the comments with many attempting to theorize when the game could finally see the light of day.

Outside of the initial reveal trailer as well as the knowledge from the original PlayStation game, fans have continued to try and piece together just where the story is heading. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has already revealed how far It's willing to change major pieces of the original story, so fans continue to assume that Rebirth will continue to shake things up and not be afraid to really go off the rails from what people are expecting.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is in development for the PS5.
