With the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth rapidly approaching, excitement is brewing for the next portion of Cloud's story, as the previous game ended on a massive cliffhanger. As anticipation for the game continues to build, Square Enix has been periodically confirming several details about the game, including which characters will be playable.

Based on what has been confirmed so far, there is an even larger roster of playable characters joining the team in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth than there was in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. This includes Cloud's nemesis, Sephiroth, who will be playable during certain segments of the game. In addition to Sephiroth, players will be thrilled to learn that many of their favorite characters will now be playable in Rebirth.

The highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled for release in 2024, and it looks to be packed full of exciting content for fans to enjoy.

Every Playable Character Returning From Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is bringing over a healthy lineup of playable characters from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Most of these were expected to carry over, as Remake concluded with each of them already on the roster. However, they are playable in Rebirth nonetheless. Here is a list of every playable character returning in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth from Final Fantasy 7 Remake:

  • Cloud Strife
  • Aerith Gainsborough
  • Barret Wallace
  • Tifa Lockhart
  • Yuffie Kisaragi

Final Fantasy 7 certainly wouldn't be Final Fantasy 7 without its primary protagonist, Cloud Strife. The famous ex-SOLDIER is heading into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with his iconic Buster Sword in hand, ready to overcome any threats that challenge him. Alongside Cloud returns the ever-optimistic flower vendor, Aerith Gainsborough, who brings a host of helpful spells to the table and acts as a catalyst of growth for Cloud.

Gun-armed eco-warrior Barret Wallace reenters the fray in Rebirth as a playable battle-hardened soldier with a knack for challenging Cloud's stubborn perspectives. And, of course, there's Final Fantasy 7's Tifa Lockhart, who returns as a playable character in Rebirth and a constant reminder of Cloud's past. Finally, Yuffie Kisaragi wasn't originally playable in Final Fantasy 7 Remake but was later made playable in Remake's INTERmission DLC. That status now carries her into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

New Playable Characters Coming to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In company with each returning playable character, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will see a host of new characters joining the roster, including Final Fantasy 7's renowned villain Sephiroth. It will be interesting to see how these characters are introduced and fleshed out in Rebirth compared to their arcs in the original Final Fantasy 7, but their personalities and unique abilities are bound to have a significant impact on the game as a whole. Here is a list of every new playable character coming to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:

  • Red XIII
  • Cait Sith
  • Sephiroth
  • Zack Fair

Red XIII, otherwise known as Nanaki, made an appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but not as a playable character. That all changes now in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as he brings an arsenal of devastating combat abilities such as Sidewinder, Sentinel Stance, Stardust Ray, and Crescent Claw. Cait Sith is a fan-favorite character from the original game, now becoming playable in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Fans are likely most excited to play as Sephiroth in Rebirth, as the game will consist of several flashback scenes in which he will team up with Cloud, just as he did in the original game. Finally, Zack Fair will be appearing as a playable character in Rebirth. As a longtime friend of Cloud's, the dynamic the two share is bound to have an impact on the game's story.

As the full list of playable characters from the original Final Fantasy 7 has yet to carry over to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, fans are still likely just as excited to learn that some of their favorite characters are being made playable in Rebirth.

It's still possible other characters are being made playable as well, but that much has yet to be revealed by Square Enix.
