The journey to Phoenix Gate began in the previous main scenario quest of Final Fantasy 16. On the way, Clive and Jill visited Martha's Rest to meet with one of Cid's allies. There, they see more of the struggles that those unfortunate enough to be born a Bearer have to endure and learned of the horrible fate that awaits many of them if they use their powers too much.
In the fifteenth main scenario quest, "Holding On", Final Fantasy 16 players continue to explore this larger area. They also gain access to some new side quests that they can venture off of the beaten path to pursue.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
Go to Eastpool
With the bridge restored, Final Fantasy 16 players can finally continue the journey to Phoenix Gate. When "Holding On" begins, players gain access to three new side quests. The first one is "Crystalline Lifeline", the second one is "Beast Against Beast", and the third one is "False Friends". These rewards for these side quests are not remarkable, but players who want some extra crafting materials may want to do them before continuing the story.
To reach Eastpool, head through the north exit of Martha's Rest. Along the way, look for a dead end on the east side of Martha's rest. In an alley next to a pile of straw is a chest containing the Forevermore Orchestrion Roll. When ready, crossed the bridge to enter Greensheaves.While this is a fairly small area, players can still find plenty of materials if they look around.
Exploring Eastpool
Follow the path to reach Eastpool. Before crossing the bridge that leads to Eastpool, if players go south they will reach a cliff side where a dragon will attack. Defeat it to get a Dragon Talon, which is used for crafting. Cross the bridge to trigger a cutscene. After several cutscenes have played out, players will get a new outfit along with several pieces of armor and a new weapon. They will all be substantial upgrades.
From there, continue following the red waypoint toward Phoenix Gate. Approach the gate to the northwest to trigger another cutscene. Clive and Jill meet with the Mayor of Eastpool. He asks them to meet with a Bearer that once served Clive's father. This starts a request called "Back in the Day". Head toward the well to trigger a cutscene. After that speak with two of the villagers. Next, go to the stables and speak to the Chocobo Keeper there.
Go across the bridge toward windmill where the red waypoint is. Go back down toward where the dragon enemy was encountered earlier. A couple groups of enemies will appear, deal with them all first. Following the battle, a cutscene will play, and the request will be completed. Continue toward the gate and head northwest toward the red waypoint.
Beyond the gate is an area left dead by the Blight. There are no monsters in this area, so players don't have to worry about being attacked. Upon approaching the obelisk and unlocking fast travel, a cutscene will play, and the world map will open. Proceed to Phoenix Gate Ruins to advance the story and start the next main scenario quest.
