In the previous main scenario quest of Final Fantasy 16, Clive and Jill reunited with an old ally that they thought had been lost during the incident at Phoenix Gate years prior. Yet despite the odds, Wade survived. With the help of Clive and Jill, they manage to push out the Black Shields and end their barbaric culling of Bearers.

With a boat secured, Clive and Jill can finally make their way towards another one of the Mothercrystals. Of course, just getting there was only half of the challenge. The other half is reaching the inner sanctum in one piece. This walkthrough will help give Final Fantasy 16 players an idea of what to expect as they begin both "Here Be Monsters" and "Fire and Ice".

This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Talk to Vivian

As "Here Be Monsters" begins, players should find and speak to Vivian. Before that, however, players may want to consider picking up the "Blacksmith's Blues" side quest which is in the Mess. Completing this side quest rewards unlocks a recipe for crafting a Drakeslayer's Belt. Once players have gathered the materials for it, the Drakeslayer's Belt is a substantial upgrade that provides a large boost to both Defense and HP. This recipe does require Electrum though, which can be obtained later in the game.

To progress the story speak to Vivian to trigger a cutscene and learn more about the Iron Kingdom and their culture. After that, locate Jill and speak with her to advance the story and open up a new area on the world map. When ready, travel to Drake's Breath.

Seek the Mothercrystal

After a brief cutscene, "Fire and Ice" will begin. Players begin at the shore of Drustanus, the island where one of the Mothercrystals are located. Follow the remains of the old path and grab the three pinches of Magicked Ash that are on the ground. Beyond the gate, players will encounter a small group of enemies that can be easily dealt with.

Once the enemies have been cleared out, go through the gate and up the stairs. Deal with the group of enemies and keep going up toward another gate. In this next area, players will face off against an Akashic Minotaur. Dodge its attacks and stagger it like a normal large enemy. Go up the next set of stairs and loot the chest that is near the top of the stairs. Players should make sure to heal up before going through the next gate, as a boss fight awaits players on the other side.

How to Beat Akashic Morbol

final-fantasy-16-fire-and-ice4

Morbols are nasty creatures on a good day. The Akashic Morbol is even worse. While the mechanics of this boss fight are similar to the one encountered much earlier in the game, players will want to be careful when fighting this foe. Bad Breath has been replaced with Worse Breath. Worse Breath is unique in that the Akashic Morbol will turn its head as it spews out the poisonous gas instead of looking in a fixed direction. So when this attack is used, do not attack the Akashic Morbol and instead focus on dodging the attack until it ends.

Of course, the Akashic Morbol has other attacks as well. Periodically it will stick its tentacles into the ground and several stalks will shoot up around the arena. Dodge these as much as possible and wait for them to go back down before attacking the boss again.

Around 60% health, the Akashic Morbol will use Acid Rain which drops purple puddles onto the ground. Don't stand in them. The boss will then follow this up with Wild Rage where it will charge in a direction toward the player. Watch out for its jump attack as well. There are no Cinematic Evasions or Strikes in this version of the boss fight, so just keep damaging the boss, and it will eventually fall.

Continue to Drake's Breath

Following the boss battle, continue onward into the next area. There are lots of consumables and materials on the ground, so make sure to pick them up while going down the narrow path. Keep following this path and fight the Salamander waiting in the open room. It doesn't have any unique attacks that players need to watch out for, so just focus on dodging and depleting its Will Gauge.

Loot the chest to the right and then go under the gate to proceed. Beyond this point, players will come across a narrow bridge that is being doused in embers from a flow of molten lava. Approach it to trigger a cutscene and then continue onward to fight some Bombs and other enemies. A new enemy called a Red Mousse guards the next chamber. Deal with it and then along the path and loot the chest before jumping off onto a large circular platform. Be ready though, as a boss jumps out of the lava.

How to Beat Flame Lizard

final-fantasy-16-fire-and-ice8

This boss is similar to the lizard encountered earlier in the game. The difference is that this one uses fire attacks on top of tail swipes and swiping at players with its claws. The Flame Lizard will also periodically form into a ball and jump up and down several times. Dodge this attack as much as possible as it does a lot of damage. As the boss falls below 50%, it will cast Overdrive and will unleash a barrage of attacks in rapid succession. Focus on dodging until Overdrive is finished and then get back on the offensive. Keep attacking it until it is defeated.

Proceed to the Sanctuary

final-fantasy-16-fire-and-ice10

After the Flame Lizard has been defeated, jump across the gap and climb the ladder to reach a door. Go through the door to trigger a cutscene. Once the cutscene is over, continue through the Oratory. Defeat the enemies patrolling the area and go through the doors. Keep an eye out for a small side area with a chest that contains 1,200 Gil. After a large flight of stairs, Final Fantasy 16 players will find themselves near the entrance to the Sanctuary. It is well guarded, so make sure to heal up and be ready for a fight.

Defeat the group guarding the entrance to the inner sanctum and then loot the chest to the left before proceeding any further. Upon going through the gate, a cutscene will play, and then a boss fight will begin soon after.

How to Beat Liquid Flame

final-fantasy-16-fire-and-ice11

Starting out, this boss doesn't do anything special. It casts Firaga periodically and will slam down one of its limbs. Both attacks are easily dodged. Just before the boss reaches 50%, it will cast Swelter in an attempt to cover the arena in lava. Shiva counters this with Diamond Dust and phase two begins. The only difference in this phase is the boss will periodically run around on all fours. Periodically, the boss will grow wings and fly around while breathing fire for a brief time before changing back into its two-legged form.

Near the end of the fight, Liquid Flame will cast Eleventh Hour and will split into four separate forms. Focus on dodging the boss as it cannot be harmed while it performs this attack. Keep damaging the boss while avoiding its attacks and it will eventually go down. The current main scenario quest ends after a series of cutscenes following the boss battle.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now on PlayStation 5.
