As players make their way into the sixth quest in the main scenario of Final Fantasy 16, they will begin to get a taste of what to expect for the rest of the game. The Greatwood stands between Clive and Lostwing, which is where the Dominant of Fire was allegedly seen. The trouble with the Greatwood is that it is overrun by monsters that have nowhere else to go because of the blight that is rapidly consuming the rest of the realm.

While progressing through "Fanning Embers", Final Fantasy 16 players should be prepared to deal with several bosses and no small amount of enemies along the way. This walkthrough will cover everything that players need to know about this quest.

This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Follow Cid along the trail through the Greatwood. Not long into this quest, Final Fantasy 16 players will be attacked by a group of Worgen. Deal with them and pick up any loot that is dropped before continuing on. There will be a brief cutscene of a large monster moving its way through the forest.

Keep moving and deal with the hostile plant life in the area. Follow Cid and grab the Wyrrite on the ground to the left before proceeding any further. Press 'X' to get past the tree blocking the way and trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene is over, follow Cid under the exposed roots of a tree and grab the sharp fangs on the right.

Upon dropping into the clearing, players will be attacked by a Dragon Aevis. There is only one and it is not considered a boss. Despite that, it can still be staggered. Watch out for its spinning attack.

After the Dragon Aevis is dead, keep following Cid through the Greatwood. Along the path, there will be a Potion that players can pick up. Jump off of the ledge and grab the Steelsilk. The path forward is blocked by a down tree, but Torgal helps point out an alternate route. If players pet Torgal enough times, they will get a trophy. Go through the narrow crevice to proceed into a clearing where a group of enemies will attack.

Once the area is cleared out, go through another crevice and pick up the nearby Potion. Follow the path down into the ruins of an old building. This next area is fairly large, so if players are suspecting that a boss fight is about to happen they'd be right.

How to Beat Fafnir

Fafnir is a large lizard creature that will swipe at players with its large claw like arms. Dodging Fafnir's attacks can be tricky as it will sometimes follow up with another attack. Watch out for when it rolls on its side.

As the boss gets low on health, it will use an ability called Spin Cycle. Fafnir will roll up into a ball and spin all along the walls. Wait for him to charge forward and then dodge out of the way. This is usually followed up by a tail attack, so be ready for that. Once Fafnir is defeated a cutscene will play.

Find the Road

Once the cutscene is finished, go through the crack in the wall directly ahead. If players need to heal any damage from the fight with Fafnir, there is a Potion along the left cave wall. Climb up the ledge and grab the nearby High Potion while also taking the time to enjoy the view. The path continues to the right, where a group of enemies can be found.

Despite how big this next area looks, the path forward is fairly linear. Look for the stream of water and follow it. Deal with any enemies along the way and loot the chest at the end of the stream. Go under the structure to proceed forward until a cutscene starts.

A battle immediately follows as Clive and Cid are discovered by enemy forces. Quickly deal with the weaker enemies and then focus on the boss, the Midnight Raven. The key to defeating the Midnight Raven doesn't have any unique attacks to watch out for. Just dodge as many attacks as possible and stagger him.

Once the boss is defeated, another cutscene will play and then players will be at the world map. From there, Final Fantasy 16 players can either go back to the Hideaway if needed or continue onward to Orabelle Downs to start the next main scenario quest.
