  • Final Fantasy 16 will be released on PC, as confirmed by a producer, after previously being a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
  • The development team initially had no plans for DLC but has now responded to fan requests and announced updates, including a transmog system and alternative outfits for characters.
  • While Final Fantasy 16's timed exclusivity on PS5 will end in late December, it's uncertain when the PC release will occur, and an Xbox release is unlikely, although Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Xbox.

A PC version of Final Fantasy 16 has been announced to be in development. There was previously no official word on whether the PlayStation 5 exclusive would come to other platforms, but Final Fantasy 16's eventual arrival on PC has now been confirmed by a producer.

Final Fantasy 16 developer Creative Business Unit 3 was rather tight-lipped about the possibility of DLC or PC port immediately following release. Speaking to Game Informer back in May, producer Naoki Yoshida stated that the team had no plans for DLC. Yoshi-P described Final Fantasy 16 as "a one-off game" and claimed that the studio could not predict if players were going to want more content in Valisthea or fall in love with the characters and their stories. The wait-and-see approach would likely have also informed whether investing in a PC release was worth it. However, if anyone took even a cursory glance at online discourse regarding Final Fantasy 16, they would find overwhelming praise and affection from players, particularly for characters such as Clive and Jill. Requests for DLC have included expanding upon Jill's story and perhaps making her, or someone other than Clive, a playable character.

Creative Business Unit 3 must have heard fans clamoring for additional content and a PC release because the official Twitter account for Final Fantasy 16 posted a video featuring Yoshi-P announcing a host of updates for the game. He concluded the message with confirmation that development on a PC version is ongoing but stopped short of a release date or any specific details, stating that he hopes to provide more information before the end of the year.

Yoshi-P also revealed that a free update to Final Fantasy 16 would be available to download within a few hours (available now), introducing a transmog system for Clive's weapon and alternative outfits for not only the playable Clive, but Jill, Torgal, Ambrosia, and Joshua as well. There are also more controller layouts and other new-player-friendly additions being added with the update. Two paid DLCs are also in development, but fans will have to wait for further information, likely whenever details regarding the PC version are revealed.

A PC release may be announced when Final Fantasy 16's timed exclusivity on PS5 ends, which would be in late December. But timed exclusivity does not necessarily mean that additional platforms will receive the game immediately following its conclusion, such as when Final Fantasy 7 Remake did not arrive on PC for nearly two years. It is still not on Xbox, and Final Fantasy 16 is unlikely to do so either in the foreseeable future. However, it was recently announced that Final Fantasy 14 would be finally coming to Xbox consoles, suggesting there may be a future for Final Fantasy on the Microsoft platform.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now on PS5 and in development for PC.
