Final Fantasy 16 allows players to wield the might of numerous different Eikons throughout their adventure. One Eikon that will be close at hand after the game's first few acts is Ifrit, one of two Eikons of Fire. His power is incredibly valuable throughout the game.

As Clive's main Eikon in Final Fantasy 16, Ifrit offers a range of abilities that are complementary to his core moveset and open up additional melee combat options. While Ignition provides him with a long dash that can carry foes with it as it burns them to ash, Will O' The Wykes instead serves as both shield and sword. This guide will explain how Will O' The Wykes works, and provide some combo ideas utilizing it.

How To Use Will O' The Wykes

Final Fantasy 16_Will O The Wykes

Will O' The Wykes will create orbital fireballs around Clive, which deal damage to nearby enemies and absorb incoming damage. It can be unlocked after defeating the Dark Eikon boss during the main quest "Awakening." It costs 100 AP to unlock, a further 600 to upgrade it, and 1000 more to master it. It is worth upgrading, as it increases the number of orbital fireballs and the number of hits they can absorb before the ability ends.

Will O' The Wykes performs well as a defensive technique, allowing Clive to withstand hits that would normally do tons of damage without even flinching. This can be useful to set up abilities that leave Clive vulnerable without the risk of interruption. It also rewards players for staying close to their foes so that the fireballs can inflict as much damage as possible as they spin. This is compounded by the ability's fairly short cooldown, which allows it to be reapplied frequently.

Will O' The Wykes pairs exceptionally well with the Lightning Rod Eikonic Ability offered by Ramuh. This ability hits rapidly, causing the Lightning Rod to spike electrical AOE damage constantly for the duration of Will O' The Wykes. Do this with a Lightning Rod placed on a staggered foe to deal immense damage while still leaving Clive free to use other attacks and rack up even more damage.

As previously mentioned, Will O' The Wykes can also be excellent for protecting Clive when using abilities that leave him vulnerable while active, like Gigaflare or Flare Breath. For similar reasons, it can also be useful for practicing perfect dodging without risking Clive's health.
