Final Fantasy 16 features a wide range of powerful weapons for Clive Rosfield to use during his time in Valisthea. While many of the game's deadliest weapons will be easy to come by, some require Clive to put in work before adding them to his arsenal. A specific set of weapons, which only become available in Final Fantasy 16's late-game section, will be earned by completing a series of quests for Blackburn the Blacksmith.

Final Fantasy 16's version of the legendary Excalibur is part of this set. Though Clive will have to put in considerable work, the power of the sword itself makes the effort more than worth it.

When Can Clive Get Excalibur in Final Fantasy 16?

FF16-Excalibur-Rewards

Before Clive can begin planning the process to get Excalibur, he must reach the mission "Out of the Darkness." This will take place just after the events at Dragon's Fang, where Clive faces off with Titan. "Out of the Darkness" will feature several small quests, including all three of the "Letting Off Steam" quests. Once Clive has completed all three missions for Mid, he will be able to begin the side-quest that leads to Excalibur.

Earlier in the game, Clive had the opportunity to help Blackthorne through some personal troubles in a side-quest called "Blacksmith Blues." When Clive completes "Letting Off Steam III," he will receive a letter in his chambers that begins the quest "Blacksmith's Blues II." The designs for Excalibur will be the reward for completing this side-quest.

How to Complete Blacksmith's Blues II

FF16-Blackthorne-With-Whetstone

Just as in the first quest, this foray begins with the blacksmith's friend August enlisting Clive's help. He is again worried that his friend his losing his passion for the craft, and asks Clive to intervene again. After Clive receives this information in the letter, he will go speak to Blackthorne in person. This time, the blacksmith has seen a sword with an edge so sharp, it actually confuses him. It will be up to Clive to sort this out.

After Blackthorne, Clive must speak with Charon. She will inform him that he'll need to head to see a man named Ignac in Dalimil. The best fast-travel location is the Obelisk near the Dalimil Inn.

Ignac can be found in a small bar with a scorpion sign above the door, upstairs in a private room. Heading up the stairs will initiate a cutscene.

Ignac's servant will inform Clive that they were robbed, and the sword he is looking for was taken. Clive will agree to go after the bandits, in exhange for an audience with the noble.

Head out into the Velkroy Desert, and use the Obelisk with the same name. The bandits are located in the northeastern section of the desert. The trip will be much easier if Clive has unlocked Final Fantasy 16's trusty Chocobo, Ambrosia.

Defeat the Bandits

FF16-The-Innkeeper

Clive will come across a camp with several enemy bandits. The only real threat is the Innkeeper, a large, human-form enemy. Luckily, if Clive has made it to this point in the game, nothing here will provide much of a challenge. These larger human enemies appear particularly vulnerable to the Titan's Eikonic abilities.

FF16-Sundering-Whetstone

Clive will return Ignac's luggage, and in return he will be granted the Sundered Whetstone. Return to Blackthorne at the Hideaway to complete the mission. This will reward Clive with the Excalibur Design Draft.
