There is very little doubt that the story of Final Fantasy 16 goes into some mature and dark territory. A tale of betrayal, death, and bloodshed is at the heart of the conflict in this JRPG, and players can expect protagonist Clive Rosfield to be faced with some tough decisions. However, that doesn't mean the hero is immune to the lure of optional adventures and side quests.

One of the ways that Clive can contribute to the world of Valisthea and its people is to eliminate threats that have popped up. By taking down these Notorious Marks, the world becomes a safer place, while Clive can reap the rewards and continue building the reputation of his group. For players seeking some help when it comes to bringing down the Grimalkin in Final Fantasy 16, this is the right place to start.

This hunt will become available back at the hideaway once players are into the main quest, Out of the Shadow. Picking this up, the next port of call will be in Dhalmekia. The Grimalkin can be found east of The Jaw, head towards the region called The Sickle, and proceed south all the way to find it.

While it will usually be more straightforward when fighting against one foe, the Grimalkin actually has some allies to call upon before joining the fight proper. These Wild Nakks are numerous, but they are weak, so dispatch them using AoE attacks to remove them from the equation. Once that is settled, the Grimalkin will join the battle.

  • The Grimalkin is a fast opponent, and likes to attack in short bursts of damaging combos. Rather than be overly aggressive, it pays to find an opening when it misses its attacks.
  • Parrying is a great way to punish the Grimalkin for being aggressive, so read its patterns before trying to match its moves. Unleash Eikonic Abilities to punish it when successful.

  • Once its health is below half, it will start using the Savage attack, which is a series of dangerous swipes and bites that can last for quite a while. During this time, keep dodging to the side or use Titanic Block to negate the damage and recover.

It should be an easy time once players have figured out the attack patterns and timing of the Grimalkin's limited repertoire of attacks. Defeating this beast will reward Clive with 575 XP, 45 Ability Points, 6100 Gil, 10 Renown, and one Grimalkin Hide for crafting.

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively available for PlayStation 5.
