Table of contents

Final Fantasy 16 features a wide range of side activities for Clive Rosfield to pursue when taking a break from his main journey. These opportunities for adventure are presented linearly, with new quests usually added after large story moments. The rewards for these quests range from the most common materials and gil (currency), to one of a kind items that are required to craft some of the game's most powerful weapons and upgrades. This fact alone makes Final Fantasy 16's side quests worth pursuing.

The game's core side-quests are broken down into two types, easily distinguished by their quest markers. A third type of side quest, known as 'Hunts,' are given by a specific NPC, and are essentially impossible to miss. By completing all the side content available, Clive will considerably expand the game's story and lore, improve his storage capacity, and receive all the crafting materials he'll ever need.

FF16 Side Quests Explained

Side quests in Final Fantasy 16 work similarly to many linear-style games. Clive will slowly make his way through each main mission, and every so often, a new batch of side quests will be unlocked. These quests are distinguished by two types of green and white quest markers:

  • Story-Based Side Quest: This is the most common type of side quest found in FF16, and will feature a green circle around a white exclamation point. These quest markers are found on the map, as well as above the quest-givers head in-world.
  • Item-Based Side Quest: These side quests will have a 'plus' (+) symbol instead of an exclamation mark. This means that Clive will be rewarded with some kind of upgrade at the end of the quest. Clive definitely does not want to miss these missions.

Allient Reports:

At a certain point in the game, Clive will return to Pheonix's Gate. Once this mission is complete, he will unlock a feature known as Allient Reports. This will allow Clive to see every quest currently available to him.

Hunts:

Hunts are a special type of side-quest that task Clive with going after high-value bounties, known as Notorious Marks in the world of FF16. The Hunt Board will unlock after the main quest titled "The Gathering Storm."
