Final Fantasy 14's Patch 6.45 introduced many exciting changes, including a plethora of new spells for its unique Blue Mage (BLU) job. Unlike other jobs, the Blue Mage learns spells by defeating specific enemies and encounters across the game world. It is reminiscent of iconic Blue Mage characters in previous Final Fantasy entries including Quina Quen and Kimahri Ronso.

With 20 new spells introduced in this patch, the Blue Mage now boasts a formidable arsenal of 124 unique spells, of which 24 can be equipped at any time. These spells are primarily used to complete special Blue Mage exclusive Masked Carnivale solo combat duties. In this guide, players learn how Blue Mages can learn Rehydration, a powerful new healing spell in Final Fantasy 14.

Rehydration is a new Blue Mage healing spell added in Final Fantasy’s Patch 6.45. This one-star spell allows the Blue Mage to restore their own HP with a Cure Potency of 600. It is spell #108 of the Blue Mage list of 124 spells, and is unlocked through defeating a specific enemy in the overworld. Blue Mages must learn this spell to continue progressing through the new job quests added in Patch 6.45.

The Rehydration spell is learned through defeating a new enemy: Slippery Armadillo. The player can encounter these Beastkin monsters in Amh Araeng, a large desert zone located in Norvrandt that was introduced in FFXIV’s Shadowbringers expansion. The player will need to learn this spell after completing the level 75 quest "Gridania's Most Wanted" in order to accept the next quest in the series.

Where to Find Slippery Armadillo

Slippery Armadillo location in Final Fantasy XIV.

To easily reach the Qasr Sharl area of Ahm Araeng, where the Slippery Armadillo can be found, players can Teleport to the Mord Souq Aetheryte. From there, head directly northwest across the River of Sand. About halfway through this area, just before reaching The Red Seral, the player can find multiple Slippery Armadillo around coordinates (X: 32.8, Y: 9.1, Z: 0.5).

Slippery Armadillo are aggressive, level 70 enemies, so lower level Blue Mages may consider bringing along some friends to defeat one of these enemies if necessary. Patch 6.45 also increased the Blue Mage’s max level to 80, so players who have already reached this new level cap should have no issue defeating these enemies and learning Rehydration.

It is important to note that in order for a Blue Mage to learn a spell from an enemy, the enemy must use the spell before it is defeated. Therefore, the player will have to wait for the Slippery Armadillo to cast Rehydration at least one time before defeating the monster to ensure they will learn the spell.
