Final Fantasy 14 is officially launching for Xbox Series X/S consoles in Spring 2024. Square Enix's massively popular MMORPG started life as a PS3 console exclusive back in 2013, but it was eventually ported to PS4 and PS5. Xbox fans have been waiting for their own version of Final Fantasy 14 for years, but even though many other main series FF games have come to Xbox, FF14 has remained elusive.

There have been rumors of a Final Fantasy 14 Xbox port for quite some time. At one point, Square Enix flatly said that there were no plans to bring the MMORPG to Microsoft's consoles, though it was later indicated that there had been some positive talks about the possibility. Now it seems Microsoft's efforts to bring Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox have finally paid off, as it was confirmed that the game will release for Xbox Series X and S consoles in Spring 2024.

This big announcement happened during the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest event, with a special appearance by Head of Xbox Phil Spencer himself. An open beta for the Xbox version of the game will take place during patch 6.5, prior to the Spring 2024 release. Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox will have "faster loading" and 4K support. Otherwise, fans can expect a similar experience to Final Fantasy 14 as it exists on other platforms.

Final Fantasy 14 coming to Xbox is a huge deal and shows a surprisingly strong relationship between Xbox and Square Enix. Recent developments may have led some fans to think that things were strained between the two gaming giants, as the main series Final Fantasy games have left Xbox Game Pass for PS Plus, and the recently released Final Fantasy 16 launched as a PS5 exclusive. However, this development suggests that Final Fantasy 16 being a PS5 exclusive was simply due to a deal that was made between Square Enix and PlayStation, and not due to any kind of strained relationship with Xbox.

When Final Fantasy 14 comes to Xbox, fans should be able to expect a complete experience and parity with other platforms moving forward. This means potential Final Fantasy 14 players on Xbox can look forward to playing the base game and all the major expansions that have released over the years, on top of the newly-announced Dawntrail expansion when it launches in summer 2024.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5 with an Xbox Series X version coming in Spring 2024.
