In Final Fantasy 14 Patch 5.5, fans will get to play through new main story quests which set the stage for the upcoming Endwalker expansion. They also can look forward to an epic showdown with the Diamond Weapon in the Sorrow of Werlyt questline. For players who may have decided to try Final Fantasy 14 because of its collaboration with NieR: Automata, the most exciting new addition might be the Tower at Paradigm's Breach. This 24-man alliance raid is the final installment in the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse series, but unlocking it might take some legwork.

Before players can begin the new YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse quests added in Patch 5.5, they will have to complete all prior quests and raids as well. This includes the alliance raid The Puppets' Bunker that was introduced in Patch 5.3. It also includes the quest "To Make Amends" that was added in Patch 5.4. Those who have not completed "To Make Amends" must do so by speaking to Konogg in Kholusia (X:33.8 Y:18.0). After doing so, players can begin the new chain of quests added in Patch 5.5.

How to Unlock the Final NieR Automata Raid

The new YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse quests in Patch 5.5 begin with "Konogg, Alone." Players can pick this quest up from Dig Site Chief in Kholusia (X:34.8 Y:18.2). The events of "Konogg, Alone" will take players into a solo-instance of The Puppets' Bunker. After completing the quest objectives, the quest "Brave New World" will become available from Dig Site Chief at The Puppets' Bunker (X:9.8 Y:14.3).

After a bit of walking and cutscene watching, the Tower at Paradigm's Breach will become unlocked over the course of this quest. Completing the alliance raid is an objective for "Brave New World," and more quests will become available afterward to continue the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse story to its conclusion.

The Tower at Paradigm's Breach can be accessed from the Duty Finder. However, there is an item level requirement of 495. Players who have fallen behind on their gear level will have to upgrade their loadout before entering the raid. Fortunately, there are a couple of easy ways to get better gear fast. The dungeon Paglth'an can be accessed after progressing through the new Patch 5.5 main scenario quests, and it yields level 505 gear. Alternatively, money-laden adventurers can purchase gear as high as level 510 from other players who are adept at crafting.

After queuing for the Tower at Paradigm's Breach and being matched with 23 other adventurers, players can participate in the epic NieR: Automata raid and strive for some desirable rewards. The gear that can be obtained from the raid bears designs referencing familiar NieR characters such as Devola and Popola. It's also possible to obtain the iconic hairstyles of beloved android 2B or 9S to use on one's own character.

It should be noted that only one gear drop can be obtained from the Tower at Paradigm's Breach per week. While players wait for the weekly reset to obtain more rewards, there is plenty of other content to enjoy in Final Fantasy 14 Patch 5.5. The release of the major patch also coincides with the annual Hatching-tide seasonal event. Fans who participate in the egg-hunt event can then enjoy battling alongside 2B while wearing a chicken suit in the Tower at Paradigm's Breach, if they truly wish.

Final Fantasy 14 is available on PC and PS4 with a PS5 beta in the works.
