While there is a lot to do, some of it requires the help of others. Content like raids, Savage or Extreme forms of trials and dungeons, and clearing treasure maps all require aid. While there is the Party Finder to make pick up groups, sometimes it's best to start forming bonds and running with a regular crew. To facilitate this, Final Fantasy 14 allows groups of players to come together under the banner of a Free Company. A Free Company functions exactly like a guild would in other games like World of Warcraft. It's a group where players can tackle challenging content while making friends along the way. Here's how to form one.

How to Form a Free Company

To form a Free Company, there are some basic requirements that must be met. The first is that a character must be amember of a Grand Company. There are three Grand Companies to choose from in Eorzea: the Immortal Flames of Ul'dah, the Maelstrom of Limsa Lominsa, and the Twin Adders of Gridania. Upon reaching level 20, players will undertake a quest that will allow them to choose one of these Grand Companies. They are universally the same, with no real benefit to choosing one over another.

The second requirement is to have the character reach level 25. At this early stage in the game, this should be fairly easy to do. To help facilitate this, there are many items like earrings and food buffs that will increase XP gain rates.

With those two requirements met, players can head back to their Grand Company and speak with the OIC Administrator to obtain a Company Petition. With the acquisition of the Company Petition, the player will need to choose a Free Company Name and Free Company Tag. The name is self-explanatory, and the tag is what appears over a player's head to represent the FC to other players. The next step is to acquire the signature of three players to form the core of the FC. After acquiring the signatures, players will then head back to the OIC Administrator and pay 15,000 gil to found the FC.

Free Company Benefits

Once the Free Company is formed, there are several perks to be had. These include:

A Free Company can have up to 512 members, so depending on how small or large the organization wants to grow, there is a lot of room to play. Running an FC, like handling a guild in any other game, is no small task. Fortunately, there is a host of options that will make it easier, and recruiting the right people can make all the difference.

All that's left is to decide what focus, if any, the new FC will have. Will it be primarily for RP, clearing content, PvP, or something else? Like nearly everything else in Final Fantasy 14, it's all what the player makes of it.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
