Final Fantasy 14 is expanding its free trial to include everything up to the Stormblood expansion. This means players can try out up to three massive JRPGs worth of Final Fantasy 14 content before ever having to purchase the game.

Right now, Final Fantasy 14 has a free trial that includes all the base A Realm Reborn game, plus the critically-acclaimed Heavensward expansion. The free trial has no limitations on play time, meaning fans can enjoy hundreds of hours of Final Fantasy 14 without spending a dime.

However, this already generous free trial is about to get even better. During the first Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Las Vegas, director and producer Naoki Yoshida announced that Stormblood was being added to the free trial. This means players can raise their jobs to level 70, unlock the Red Mage and Samurai classes, and progress through the story leading up to Shadowbringers for free.

A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion alone contain hundreds of hours of content, with each one providing a full RPGs worth of things to do. Final Fantasy 14 already had one of the most robust free trials for a subscription MMO beforehand. With the addition of Stormblood, players who try it out will have plenty of time to get hooked before they need to subscribe to the game.

This expansion to the Final Fantasy 14 trial will be added alongside Dawntrail next summer. The free trial will continue to use all existing limitations–they can only have up to 300,000 gil, cannot speak with the shout or whisper chat options, and are unable to use certain features such as the auction house, mailbox, or free companies. Barring these limitations in place to fight against botting and RMT in Final Fantasy 14, players are free to enjoy the trial at their leisure.

Dawntrail is the next expansion for Final Fantasy 14. This high-adventure expansion will take players across the sea to Tural, known by many Eorzeans as the New World. There, players will encounter cities of gold, vibrant cultures and scenery, and new challenges as they discover the mysteries of Tural and participate in a contest to decide the future of its leadership. The new content update also expands the level cap to 100, introduces two new DPS jobs, and brings Final Fantasy 14’s first graphics overhaul to the game. Fans can expect to learn more about Dawntrail during the London Fan Festival on October 21 and the Tokyo Fan Fest early next year.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5 with an Xbox Series X version coming in Spring 2024.
