Highlights

  • Final Fantasy 14's Moogle Treasure Trove event returns with more objectives like ocean fishing and Gold Saucer events for players to earn rewards.
  • The First Hunt for Genesis event starts on January 30 and ends on March 11, with players able to earn a currency called "Irregular Tomestones of Genesis I" by participating in various activities.
  • Players can trade the tomestones for rewards like the Mameshiba Necklace and the Modern Legend hairstyle, and a new Mogpendium will help keep track of the objectives. The event will also feature Ultimog Challenges for larger rewards.

To close off the month of January, Final Fantasy 14 will play host to another Moogle Treasure Trove event, but this one will be different from its predecessors. The updated Moogle Treasure Trove event for Final Fantasy 14 will give players more objectives to do, such as ocean fishing and Gold Saucer events, to earn the currency needed to claim some rewards.

The return of the Moogle Treasure Trove event arrived shortly after the release of Patch 6.55. The latest update for Final Fantasy 14 concluded the story of Endwalker and offered players a glimpse into what they can expect in the upcoming Dawntrail expansion. Players were also allowed to finish several side quest stories, including Tataru's Grand Endeavor, the Allied Tribe quests, and the latest chapter in the Hildibrand series. While Dawntrail has no release date at the time of writing, Final Fantasy 14 players will not be completely starved of content in the interim.

Patch 6.55, Final Fantasy 14's latest content updated, added the Asura Trial first seen at FanFest, but it is found in a place few players expected.

The new Moogle Treasure Trove event, titled The First Hunt for Genesis, starts on Tuesday, January 30, at 3:00 a.m. Eastern. The hunt will conclude no later than Monday, March 11, at 10:59 a.m. Eastern. According to Square Enix, The First Hunt for Genesis will be followed up with a second Moogle Treasure Trove event at a later date, though Square Enix has not stated when this will take place. Compared to past iterations of the Moogle Treasure Trove that saw players grind out dungeons and raids, this version gives players more options to earn a currency called "Irregular Tomestones of Genesis I" by doing more activities such as Gold Saucer GATEs and ocean fishing, all of which are ways Final Fantasy 14 players can earn gil at the same time.

Final Fantasy 14 Moogle Treasure Trove (The First Hunt for Genesis)

  • Starts on Tuesday, January 30, at 3:00 a.m. Eastern
  • Ends on Monday, March 11, at 10:59 a.m. Eastern
  • The event may be suspended without warning

Players can trade these tomestones by speaking to an Itinerant Moogle in either Ul'dah, Limsa Lominsa, or Gridania. Some rewards include the Mameshiba Necklace and the Modern Legend hairstyle, which players can use to further customize their character's appearance. A new "Mogpendium" will be added to Final Fantasy 14 for players to keep track of the objectives that qualify for earning Irregular Tomestones, including weekly objectives and "Minimog Challenges" that can be completed once a week for the duration of the event. A new Moogle Treasure Trove challenge called "Ultimog Challenges" can only be completed once per event period for a larger Irregular Tomestone reward than the other objectives.

It remains to be seen what other activities qualify for earning Irregular Tomestones. Between the Moogle Treasure Trove and the return of the Final Fantasy 11 collaboration event, Final Fantasy 14 players have plenty of activities to do as February draws near.
