In a lot of ways, Final Fantasy 14 makes it very simple to learn how to play the game. Features like in-game help guides, the Hall of the Novice, and the intuitively progressive feel of mechanics help new players feel at ease in new content.

The designers also lean on the playerbase to help get new adventurers up to speed. The Mentor system is one of the most interesting and engaging parts of the critically acclaimed MMO's community. Mentor Roulette rewards seasoned players for their knowledge while serving as a mechanism to provide new and returning players with support and guidance.

Square Enix's hit MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 has a long history behind it that leaves it a bit outdated these days, but it also remains rather timeless.

What Is Mentor Roulette In Final Fantasy 14

final fantasy 14 ffxiv hall of novices

Mentor Roulette automatically matches players into a queue that needs them. For example, if a party of 3 has queued for a specific dungeon without a tank, and if no tanks have queued for a roulette that includes that dungeon, Mentor Roulette will pull in the next available tank to complete the party. Nearly every instanced duty is included, but players may notice that they are queued most frequently into relatively unpopular content. For example, the Guildhest Under the Armor often appears, simply because others trying to complete their Challenge Log entries will queue for it alone. Older Extreme Trials frequently appear, giving tenured players a great excuse to slay old friends like Ifrit and Ramuh.

How To Unlock Mentor Roulette In Final Fantasy 14

The first step in unlocking mentor roulette is, of course, to earn a mentor crown.

After meeting that requirement comes the more challenging part. To unlock this daily roulette, mentors need to complete every duty available through it. The list includes basically every duty except for Savage Raids and the Extreme Trial from the current patch.

  • Every Dungeon, including optional and hard versions
  • Every Trial in normal/story mode
  • Every Extreme Trial through Shadowbringers
  • Every Guildhest
  • Every 8-player Normal Raid (not including Savage versions)
  • Every 24-player Alliance Raid

Rewards For Mentor Roulette In Final Fantasy 14

Each day, players can queue for Duty Roulette: Mentor once and earn rewards for successfully completing a duty. These rewards include a small amount of gil, 30 of the newest, limited tomestone, and 10 of the older, uncapped tomestone.

What drives most players to complete Mentor Roulette over and over each day, though, are the achievements. Guiding a party through mentor roulette 2,000 times grants the Asterope mount, one of the rarest, most difficult to acquire mounts in the game.
