Final Fantasy 14, like many other MMOs, allows players to use a vanity system to change the appearance of their armor and gear, which the game calls glamour. There is a broad range of customization options in the game that allow each Warrior of Light to be unique. Beyond the different races and physical attributes, though, there are many options to make a character stand out and show off fine pieces of gear.

By collecting different equipment, players can build a large collection of available appearances. These, in turn, can be used through the glamour system to transform a piece of gear to have the appearance of another — this way, players can use their best gear and not worry about choosing between looking good or having the necessary level and attributes. Those looking for a way to make their Warrior of Light more stylish need to look no further: here is everything you need to know to unlock and use the glamour system in Final Fantasy 14!

How To unlock The Glamour System In Final Fantasy 14

final fantasy 14 Swyrgeim

The only requirement to be able to pick up the quests necessary for glamour is that the character is level 15 or above and that the player has access to the Vesper Bay region.

An alternate quest can be found in Mor Dhona, but the region is only accessible later in the game.

Vesper Bay can be reached using the Aetheryte Tickets that return the player to the Waking Sands. Alternatively, the closest Aetheryte for teleportation is located on Horizon (X:22.8, Y: 16.9), in Western Thanalan. There, players will see a sort of plaza with a statue of Lord Lolorito in the middle. A little beyond that, to the right of the statue, there are some benches where the NPC Swyrgeim (X: 12.6, Y: 14.2) is sitting. She initiates the quest “If I Had a Glamour” — the first step to unlocking this feature of the game.

How To Complete 'If I Had A Glamour' In Final Fantasy 14

The quest is fairly straightforward. Talking to the Roegadyn Swyrgeim and accepting the quest will lead to some dialogue, and she’ll ask that you fetch her some blood orange juice. To the west, there is a building you can enter to find a bar — and the NPC Folclind (X: 12.5, Y: 14.9). She will give you the juice, which must then be brought back to the first NPC.

Swyrgeim will explain how glamours work. She states this system keeps the original gear the same while projecting a convincing and lasting illusion that changes its appearance. The quest will reward the player with 12 Glamour Prisms, necessary to create glamours, and a Green Beret. And, it will also unlock glamours and the glamour plate.

Glamour dressers will also be available in inn rooms and can be used to transform items into glamours.

To explain better, Glamour Prisms are the items used to cast a glamour, which can be done through the Cast Glamour action, available in the menu when clicking each gear piece, or through the Actions & Traits menu. Alternatively, depositing gear in the glamour dresser costs one prism per piece but allows players to use that glamour without having to spend more prisms later on, as would be the case when switching glamours through the first option.

Glamour dressers also allow players to create Glamour Plates. Through this system, players can save full sets with the desired appearance, which can be applied at the dresser or in any Sanctuary area. The button to access the saved glamour plates can be found on the character screen, between Recommended Gear and Gear Set List.

The few gear pieces that can be stored in the Armoire, usually purchased from the Mog Station or rewarded during limited-time events and through Veteran rewards, can also be used in Glamours. Unlike other equipment, however, it’s not necessary to spend prisms to use their appearances.

How To Make Glamour Prisms In Final Fantasy 14

final fantasy 14 goberin

The first quest is followed by “Absolutely Glamorous,” picked up with the same NPC — though requiring level 15 or above in one of the Disciple of the Hand classes, also known as the crafting jobs. Swyrgeim will explain how to make Glamour Prisms so you can craft your own. After accepting the quest, she’ll ask for another drink, this time Othardian orange juice.

The next few steps are the same as in the previous quest: go to the bar, talk to Folclind, and take the orange juice to Swyrgeim. This time, however, she will send the adventurer to the merchant Goberin (X: 12.1, Y: 15.0), who will allow them to peruse his tomes and buy whatever they want. After that, Master Crafting Tomes can be bought from him or Tataroga in Mor Dhona. It's necessary to read the tomes to learn the recipes.

It’s worth noting that while the tome Master Recipes: Glamours Set can be bought after the quest, it isn’t one of the rewards. The actual quest reward, other than the merchants being available, is a Clear Prism, one of the ingredients to craft Glamour Prisms.

How To Recolor & Dye Gear In Final Fantasy 14

The option to dye gear demands a different quest to be completed, but this is also done in the same area, and Swyrgeim (X: 12.6, Y: 14.2) in Vesper Bay is once again the NPC who initiates the quest. After talking to her and accepting the “Color Your World” quest, she will ask for (another) bottle of orange juice. This time, however, the player will have to buy it for 7 gil from the Merchant & Mender (X: 12.1, Y: 13.8). The NPC in question can be seen from where you pick up the quest, as shown in the image above.

Swyrgeim will then explain how the system works, assuring adventurers that their gear won’t be changed in the process — only its appearance will be affected. This will unlock the Dye action and reward the player with 3 Coral Pink Dye, 3 Adamantoise Green Dye, and 3 Rhotano Blue Dye, allowing the Warrior of Light to begin experimenting with colors right away.

How To Dye Artifact Gear In Final Fantasy 14

dye artifact gear final fantasy 14

Artifact gear is a special case and can't initially be dyed, requiring a special process to make that possible. The gear itself is easy to obtain, as it is usually a reward for either Job Quests or Main Scenario Quests, but changing the color of the equipment from each expansion is only possible after the player follows a series of different steps.

Below, you can learn how to dye the Artifact Gear for each expansion!

How To Dye Level 50 Artifact Gear

final fantasy 14 dye arr gear

The quest “Simply to Dye For” is unlocked after completing “Color Your World,” but it can only be completed later on, as it is located in Mor Dhona and requires the completion of a level 50 Job Quest with one of the jobs available in A Realm Reborn. The questgiver is a Hyur called Alys (X: 21.7, Y: 8.6), who will ask the player to talk to the blacksmith Eginolf (X: 22.4, Y: 5.5) at Rowena's House of Splendors. He can be found in the first room to the right after entering the building, and he will explain he is struggling with work, unable to create something new — until the Warrior of Light inspires him.

If you can't get the quest from Alys, check if she has more than one quest to offer you, as that could lead to the quest's name not showing up on the map. It's also important to highlight that having jobs added after A Realm Reborn at level 50 will not count for the quest to be available. And since it's a quest that has been in the game for some time, it's always worth checking the Journal to see if it hasn't been completed yet.

After that, he will offer his assistant, Kakalan (X: 22.2, Y: 5.5), to dye the player’s Artifact Gear, but as mentioned before, this quest is exclusively for A Realm Reborn Artifact Gear (level 50 Artifact Gear). It’s also important to note that to complete that process, it’s necessary to have Augmentation items. These can be found at the Market Board, although they are usually expensive. Alternatively, they can be acquired through crafting if the player has the Alchemist class at level 50 and has read the tome Master Alchemist II. After that, taking the gear and the Augmentation items to Kakalan will allow the player to complete the process.

How To Dye Level 60 Artifact Gear

final fantasy 14 yolaine

During the Shadowbringers expansion, upgrades to Heavensward Augmented Artifact gear were retired, with the augmented versions replacing the base ones. Any pieces of the original base version, called Antiquated gear, can still be augmented in Idyllshire by talking to Seika (X: 6.7, Y: 7.4). They now require 100 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics per piece upgrade.

The dyeable gear sets can be obtained by using level 60 coffers earned through the Job Quests. Alternatively, they can be purchased from Yolaine (X: 13.0, Y: 11.8) at Foundation (inside the Forgotten Knight) for Centurio Seals.

How To Dye Level 70 Artifact Gear

final fantasy 14 eureka gear

Antiquated gear in Stormblood is the level 70 Job Quest coffer reward, but it can also be acquired from Calamity Salvagers at Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X: 11.3, Y: 14.3), Old Gridania (X: 10.0, Y: 8.4) and Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (X: 12.6, Y: 13.1). Unlike with the others, this time the player must update the Artifact Gear three times before getting the dyeable gear set. It's necessary to enter Eureka Anemos (not to be confused with Eureka Orthos, added to the game during Endwalker) and speak to Gerolt (X: 18.0, Y: 32.2). This time, the items necessary for the upgrade are Protean Crystals and Anemos Crystals, and both are found in Eureka.

To get this dyeable gear, the player will have to unlock Eureka Anemos through the quest " And We Shall Call It Eureka ." Although similar to a duty, Eureka works slightly differently and cannot be accessed through the Duty Finder. Instead, after the player leaves Eureka, it's necessary to speak to Rodney (X: 8.5, Y: 14.2) at Pier #1 in Kugane to enter it again.

Anemos Crystals are rewards from facing Notorious Monsters, encounters similar to FATEs that happen inside Eureka. Protean Crystals are acquired by killing enemies in Eureka Anemos, but it is also possible to trade Anemos Crystals for Protean ones through Gerolt. The player will need to upgrade the base Artifact Gear to the +1 level, then +2, and finally the Anemos set, which can be dyed.

How To Dye Level 80 Artifact Gear

final fantasy 14 c'intana

Shadowbringers’ weapons are immediately dyeable, but the armor set is not dyeable at all — instead, players must acquire a different version of the armor set they’re rewarded with at the end of the Role Quests in this expansion.

The adventurer will be awarded the Weathered armor set but will need to acquire the Idealized armor set, which is the dyeable version of the equipment. There are only two ways to get that set: through the trial Memoria Misera (Extreme) or exchanging it for High Legatus Idols, a type of totem also acquired in the trial. The NPC responsible for the trade is C'intana (X: 22.7, Y: 6.7), located in Mor Dhona.

This trial can only be unlocked after completing "The Bozja Incident," a quest in the chain that starts with "Hail to the Queen" — but before that, it's necessary to complete the level 70 Alliance Raid questline, Return to Ivalice.

How To Dye Level 90 Artifact Gear

final fantasy 14 dye endwalker gear

Endwalker has a very simple process to make gear dyeable. By completing the level 89 Main Scenario Quest “A Bold Decision,” players will get the expansion’s Artifact Gear, and the gear for each job can be claimed for free by talking to the NPC Varsarudh (X: 11.8, Y: 9.9) in Old Sharlayan. As a result, the Role Quests are not necessary to acquire the gear — instead, finishing them makes it possible to dye it.

This also means several jobs will have dyeable equipment once a Role Quest is completed, because every job in that role will have their sets become dyeable, regardless of having already received their gear. This also applies to jobs that haven’t yet been leveled by the player. Once they are, if their Role Quest has been completed already, it will be possible to dye their Artifact Gear.
