Long-standing MMORPGs like Final Fantasy 14 have no shortage of content available thanks to years of continued updates adding new dungeons, raids, and character upgrades for players to enjoy. One issue that the genre often struggles with, however, is ensuring the relevance and longevity of legacy content as players achieve stronger gear and obtain power far beyond what was originally available. One answer Final Fantasy 14 has come up with is the Deep Dungeon.

Deep Dungeons are a special category of instanced content that borrows elements from the popular roguelike genre, featuring randomly generated floor layouts, permadeath within the dungeon for parties that wipe on later floors, and an independent leveling system that resets every run. Players that are able to thrive in these dungeons will find themselves rewarded with unique weapon rewards and have the potential to earn rare and lucrative items from random drops, as well as access to an alternative leveling method and the ability to test out a job's higher-level abilities early.

How To Unlock Palace Of The Dead In Final Fantasy 14

Palace of the Dead is the first Deep Dungeon added to Final Fantasy 14 in the Heavensward expansion, available to players as early as level 17. Players can unlock Palace of the Dead by completing the level 17 Main Scenario Quest "Into a Copper Hell," followed by the level 17 sidequest "The House That Death Built" in New Gridania (X:12, Y:13). Once unlocked, the Deep Dungeon can be entered by speaking with the Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain in South Shroud (X:25, Y:21). After players have successfully completed floor 50 of the Palace of the Dead, a new sidequest, "What Lies Beneath," is available from the Expeditionary Captain, unlocking floors 51 to 200.

Rewards from the Palace of the Dead include the Padjal and Kinna series of weapons, as well as Gelmorran Potsherds, which can be exchanged for exclusive minions and mounts like the Disembodied Head, and a chance to obtain the rare Black Pegasus mount from Gold-trimmed Sacks hidden throughout the dungeon in floors 151 and beyond. Players that successfully complete all 200 floors will be randomly rewarded with either a Firecrest or Glass Pumpkin, which can be exchanged with E-Una-Kotor in South Shroud (X:25, Y:21) for corresponding accessories or housing decorations.

Heaven-on-High is the second Deep Dungeon introduced in the Stormblood expansion. In order to access this dungeon, players will need to have completed floor 50 of the Palace of the Dead, as well as the level 63 Main Scenario Quest "Tide Goes in, Imperials Go Out."

Once these requirements are met, Heaven-on-High can be unlocked from the level 61 sidequest "Knocking on Heaven's Door" in The Ruby Sea (X:6, Y:12). Heaven-on-High can then be entered by speaking to Hamakaze in The Ruby Sea (X:6, Y:12). Like Palace of the Dead, players will need to complete a sidequest to unlock the latter floors of this Deep Dungeon, with "On the Shoulders of Giants" becoming available in The Ruby Sea (X:21, Y:9) after players complete floor 30.
