Final Fantasy 14 is expanding the Duty Support system to include every duty leading up to the Shadowbringers expansion. Once this feature is added in the next update, the story of Final Fantasy 14 will be almost completely soloable.

The Shadowbringers expansion introduced the Trust system, which allowed players to enter dungeons required to progress through the Main Scenario with a group of NPC allies, rather than real players. In Endwalker, it was renamed to the Duty Support system, and in subsequent patches, Final Fantasy 14 began adding the ability to complete older Main Scenario dungeons using these NPC allies.

In Growing Light, Final Fantasy 14’s next major content update scheduled for October, the Duty Support system is receiving another expansion that takes it all the way through Stormblood’s patch content. This means every dungeon in A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood can soon be cleared solo. Considering all Main Scenario Final Fantasy 14 dungeons from Shadowbringers onward have been designed with Duty Support, the only things that require players to party up with others to experience the story are certain 8-man Trials and the 24-man Crystal Tower Alliance raid series.

Like previous expansions to the Duty Support system, these remaining Stormblood dungeons give players the opportunity to fight alongside beloved NPCs, such as Arenvald and J’moldva, each of which have some new dialogue and interactions. This allows sprouts to grow even more attached to these Final Fantasy 14 characters while playing for the first time, while also giving veterans new content to go back and appreciate themselves.

Fans have been excited to see this long-term project finally come to fruition. The Duty Support system has been wildly popular since its addition in no small part due to the vivid cast of Final Fantasy 14. Giving players new ways to see these characters in action is awesome, and providing paths for solo players to experience the incredible story of Final Fantasy 14 can only bring more players to the game.

Growing Light is also expanding the free trial of Final Fantasy 14 to include the Stormblood expansion. Were that not enough, Final Fantasy 14 is also coming to the Xbox Series X/S next spring, just in time for the recently-announced Dawntrail expansion–and its long-awaited graphics update–currently planned for Summer 2024. There’s a lot to be excited about in Final Fantasy 14 right now, and more players than ever before are about to get the chance to check out the critically-acclaimed MMORPG.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version coming in Spring 2024.
