Final Fantasy 14 has seen a strong amount of success with its new Dawntrail expansion, director Naoki Yoshida reports. Final Fantasy 14 remains one of the biggest MMOs available, although it wasn't always that way. Fans may be familiar with the fact that the game so many have grown fond of is a rerelease of Final Fantasy 14. After its initial 2010 version was deemed a failure, Yoshida took on the project and fans have flocked to Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn and its expansions.

Players have been looking forward to Final Fantasy14: Dawntrail for a long time. Serving as the fifth expansion of the game, Dawntrail introduces 100 new quests along with a plethora of additional content. Dawntrail also serves as the start of a new chapter following the conclusion of the game's Hydaelyn-Zodiark arc, offering players a breath of fresh air, and even more reason to return to it. A new arc may also be appealing to those who haven't been keeping up to date with lore.

Naoki Yoshida stated on the Final Fantasy 14 Lodestone blog that Dawntrail is seeing a record number of concurrent users that has not been seen since the 2013 release of A Realm Reborn. Official statistics have not been released, but there are some benchmarks to use. The last batch of official statistics about Final Fantasy 14 revealed that the game had over 30 million registered accounts. Currently, general estimates can be made about what the game's recent traffic is, although accuracy varies across platforms.

Final Fantasy 14 Player Count Spikes

Statistics from MMO Populations state that not only is Final Fantasy 14 the fifth most played MMO, its daily players are estimated as over 300,000. Of that amount, at the time of writing, SteamDB estimates state the game logs over 62,000 current players, with an all-time peak of nearly 100,000 on the platform. Although the game faces plenty of success, it comes with issues, some of which Naoki Yoshida has already apologized for.

Dawntrail's massive success has brought forth increased problems with server congestion. This has been a recurring issue for Final Fantasy 14, and the developers have been vocal about dedicating time towards addressing this issue specifically. Yoshida has emphasized wanting to make the experience as convenient as possible for gamers. Despite that, it appears that some of this success was too unexpected to be prepared properly for. Those issues do not appear to serve as much of a deterrent to the many players online, regardless.
