  • Final Fantasy 14 is conducting a stress test on the Cloud data center to improve the server infrastructure after past login issues.
  • The test will take place on Sunday, November 26, from 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Pacific and is open to all subscribed players.
  • Initial reception to the Cloud data center has been positive, with players noting improved latency compared to normal servers.

With just a few days left for the Cloud data center stress test, Final Fantasy 14 challenged its players to pack the login servers as the final test of this week-long process. The Cloud data center was created as a beta test for Final Fantasy 14 players to create characters and provide feedback in order to shape the potential future of Square Enix's MMORPG.

Announced during the 2023 Las Vegas Fan Fest, the Cloud data center was revealed as a potential way to improve the server infrastructure of the game after the launch of Endwalker. The expansion's December 2021 launch was notoriously marred by long login queue times, which forced Square Enix to pause both the Free Trial of Final Fantasy 14 and sales of the game for several weeks. Eventually, queues settled down and players were able to log into the game without further issues. However, the situation caused Square Enix to look into ways to prevent similar situations from happening in the future, including the upcoming Dawntrail expansion.

A controversial Final Fantasy 14 emote from a past collaboration event is finally available for purchase again for the first time in two years.

According to a post on the Final Fantasy 14 Lodestone, stress testing on the Cloud data center will conclude with a final test of the data center's login queues. This will take place on Sunday, November 26, at 4:00 a.m. Pacific and last for 30 minutes. This test will count both players currently logged into the Cloud data center and players waiting to log in at those times. While the hours may be a bit early for players in the Americas, the Cloud data center is also open to players in other regions such as Europe and Australia, and is listed as an open beta for all Final Fantasy 14 players who are subscribed to the game. This includes those who returned to the game during the Callback Campaign that is ongoing at the time of writing.

Final Fantasy 14 Cloud Data Center Login Queue Test

  • Sunday, November 26, from 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Pacific

In addition, Square Enix said that players who want to participate in the Cloud data center beta will want to create a character on the "Cloudtest01" server. This is due to the "Cloudtest02" server being listed as a congested server to ensure a smoother testing experience. The beta test concludes on Monday, November 27, at 7:00 p.m. Pacific. Reception to the Cloud data center beta has been positive. Despite initial login queues, Final Fantasy 14 players have noted on social media that latency has been as good if not better than normal servers, including when testing content such as the Fall Guys courses at the Gold Saucer.

While the Cloud data center is a hit with Final Fantasy 14 players, it remains to be seen what Square Enix plans to do once the test concludes. With Dawntrail coming in the summer of 2024, only time will tell how the expansion's launch will fare.
