Firearms seem like things that don’t belong in the fantastical world of Hydaelyn, but it seems guns have become just as common as swords and magic in Final Fantasy 14. In this Final Fantasy MMO, firearms have become one of the staple forms of weaponry that players - particularly the Machinist - could use for their characters to start dominating combat from long range. And while certainly not as sophisticated as firearms today with automatic firing or advanced features, firearms in Final Fantasy 14 surely get the job done.
However, just what are the best firearms for players to use in the Final Fantasy MMO? More importantly, how would these weapons fare against some of the toughest monsters that players could encounter in the realm?
10 Palaka Culverin
Item Level | 536 | Physical Damage | 106 |
Auto Attack | 93.28 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 216 | Vitality | 227 |
Critical Hit | 147 | Determination | 210 |
Players who want a more casual appearance as a Machinist might appreciate the Palaka Aiming Set, especially since its colors do remind of a pirate aesthetic. And its Palaka Culverin does quite the job of being a gun with an odd aesthetic, as it looks bulky for a rifle. Appearances shouldn’t fool players, though, as it has decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack, as well as decent bonuses towards Vitality and Dexterity, possibly encouraging a sturdier and durable long-range attack build - quite unlike the more close-ranged Reaper.
Players can acquire the Palaka Culverin from the Vanaspati Dungeon in Endwalker, with a required level of 85 and an average Item Level of 510.
9 Manganese Arquebus
Item Level | 539 | Physical Damage | 95 |
Auto Attack | 95 | Delay | 2.64 |
Determination | 197 | Vitality | 205 |
Critical Hit | 191 | Determination | 133 |
The Scarlet Moko Last Unicorn Set is quite stylish, with its pointed headpiece and outward overcoat. The large and imposing Manganese Arquebus is a fitting addition to this stunningly fashionable piece. Granted, the weapon doesn’t boast as much Physical Damage and Auto Attack, but its stats remain decent enough for a stylish-looking weapon to carry players through their first few dungeons on the way to the endgame.
Players can acquire the Manganese Arquebus from the Ironwood Weapon Coffer, as acquired from the Junkmonger in Elpis.
8 Ktiseos Revolver
Item Level | 542 | Physical Damage | 107 |
Auto Attack | 94.16 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 222 | Vitality | 229 |
Critical Hit | 149 | Direct Hit Rate | 213 |
The Ktiseos Aiming Set is as brooding as it is stylish, particularly with its blank mask and sleek black overalls. However, what the Aiming Set has for mystery, the Ktiseos Revolver compensates with sheer firepower. Despite its name, the Ktiseos Revolver isn’t, by all means, a tiny revolver. It’s a large armament that boasts decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack to push enemies back. Its focus on Vitality and Dexterity bonuses means it’s a weapon encouraging more survivability over pure criticals - something the Machinist can excel in given its potential as a sub-DPS Job.
Players can obtain the Ktiseos Revolver upon completion of the Ktisis Hyperboreia Dungeon of Endwalker, with a required level of 87 and an average Item Level of 515.
7 Chondrite Magitek Handgonne
Item Level | 545 | Physical Damage | 97 |
Auto Attack | 85.36 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 203 | Vitality | 207 |
Determination | 193 | Direct Hit Rate | 135 |
The Ophiotauroskin Aiming Set gives its wearer the feeling of being a steampunk police officer, especially with its coat and brimmed hat. And the Chondrite Magitek Handgonne is a perfect addition to this aesthetic, particularly with its coiled design that would seemingly shoot lightning off its barrels.
While the weapon does lack in terms of Physical Damage and Auto Attack, it serves as a decent aesthetic weapon to carry the Machinist through some of the introductory dungeons along with the endgame. Not to mention, its base bonuses on Dexterity, Vitality, and Determination do encourage a more stable build based on dealing consistent damage over criticals.
Players can acquire the Chondrite Magitek Handgonne from the Chondrite Weapon Coffer, which can be obtained from the Junkmongers at Labyrinthos or Elpis, and the Merchant & Mender and Provisions Node from Ultima Thule.
6 Ataktos
Item Level | 560 | Physical Damage | 111 |
Auto Attack | 97.68 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 241 | Vitality | 241 |
Critical Hit | 232 | Direct Hit Rate | 162 |
The Pioneer’s Set definitely gives off a gangster vibe with its large overcoat and stylistic goggles, and the Ataktos is a perfect addition to cap off this mobster look. Unlike other weapons for the Machinist, the Ataktos boasts a tactical SMG aesthetic, and it's the most modern-looking of all the weapons in the series.
The Ataktos boasts decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack, as well as equal levels of Dexterity and Vitality bonuses, with Critical Hit coming a close second. This encourages a build focusing on short critical bursts to cripple the enemy, instead of a direct damage build.
Players can acquire Ataktos from Varsarudh at the Agora in Old Sharlayan.
5 Moonward Arquebus
Item Level | 570 | Physical Damage | 113 |
Auto Attack | 99.44 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 251 | Vitality | 255 |
Critical Hit | 247 | Determination | 173 |
The Moonward Aiming Set boasts a duelist’s appearance in a Western setting, and the Moonward Arquebus adds to this aesthetic with its lightning-shaped appearance, sleek visuals, and long barrel. Its stats make sure this weapon doesn’t become a pushover though, boasting decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack, as well as a focus on Vitality, Dexterity, and Critical Hit bonuses. Like a Western duelist, the Moonward Arquebus seems to focus on shooting really hard, really fast, with a critical-based build ensuring each shot counts.
Players can acquire the Moonward Arquebus using the Allagan Tomestone of Aphorism, which players can obtain from Cihanti in Radz-at-Han.
4 Classical Handgonne
Item Level | 580 | Physical Damage | 103 |
Auto Attack | 90.64 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 239 | Vitality | 245 |
Critical Hit | 228 | Determination | 159 |
The Classical Sagittarius’s Set has this sleek black, carefree appearance that is just augmented with the heavy yet ornate nature of the Classical Handgonne. While by all means not ordinary-looking, the Classical Handgonne is the weapon with the closest appearance to a fantasy handgun in the series. It boasts decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack, as well as high-enough Vitality, Dexterity, and Critical Hit bonuses to encourage a crit-based power build instead of a direct damage build.
Players can acquire the Classical Handgonne via Crafting, as it’s a 2-Star Level 90 recipe under the Master Blacksmith IX tree.
3 Radiant’s Pistol
Item Level | 590 | Physical Damage | 117 |
Auto Attack | 102.40 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 280 | Vitality | 290 |
Critical Hit | 182 | Determination | 260 |
The Radiant’s Aiming Set certainly dabbles into some edgelord territory, particularly with its sleek black aesthetic with the stylish and edged details. Not to mention, Radiant’s Pistol adds just enough of an alien-like aesthetic. Thankfully, the Radiant’s Pistol packs enough of a punch to complement its unique appearance, coming with strong Dexterity, Vitality, and Determination bonuses that definitely support a heavy-damage build for the Machinist, especially when aided by a healer.
Players can acquire the Radiant’s Pistol through an Allagan Tomestone of Astronomy and a Discal Tomestone, as obtained from Cihanti in Radz-at-Han.
2 Augmented Radiant’s Pistol
Item Level | 600 | Physical Damage | 119 |
Auto Attack | 104.72 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 296 | Vitality | 310 |
Critical Hit | 186 | Determination | 266 |
As with other enhanced weapon variations, the Augmented Radiant’s Pistol finally shows the true potential of the Radiant’s Pistol. This time around, the weapon boasts high bonuses with regards to Vitality, Dexterity, and Determination - definitely emphasizing a build based on direct damage instead of scoring criticals. This gives focus towards consistent damage instead of hard criticals - something that the sub-DPS nature of the Machinist can support.
Players can acquire the Augmented Radiant’s Pistol by bringing their Radiant’s Pistol to Khaldeen in Radz-at-Han and enhancing it with Radiant Roborant.
1 Asphodelos Arquebus
Item Level | 605 | Physical Damage | 120 |
Auto Attack | 105.60 | Delay | 2.64 |
Dexterity | 304 | Vitality | 320 |
Critical Hit | 269 | Determination | 188 |
The Asphodelos Aiming Set gives quite a serene aura for its rather mundane appearance, but it’s not to be messed with. The Asphodelos Arquebus, in particular, boasts a unique aesthetic as a pure white hunting rifle with special sigils floating around it, boasting a mystical appearance.
Its base stats prove the weapon’s worth as perhaps the best of the series, with its decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack, as well as stellar bonuses towards Dexterity, Vitality, and Critical Hit. Unlike other weapons, the Asphodelos Arquebus seems to encourage a critical-focused build, emphasizing the Job’s potential to score devastatingly-powerful criticals that can eliminate opponents quickly.
Players can acquire the Asphodelos Arquebus by obtaining the Asphodelos Weapon Coffer, acquired from the Asphodelos Mythos IV from either Djole in Radz-at-Han or Mylenie in Labyrinthos.
Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker is currently available for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS.
