The director of Square Enix's Final Fantasy 14 has recently shared his thoughts on creating an anime or television series based on the MMORPG. Given how long the MMO has been around, it is not surprising for the community to be interested in finding out whether the development team is still looking to expand Final Fantasy 14 more, beyond the realm of video games.

One of the biggest Final Fantasy 14 physical events has just concluded, and the player base has a lot of new information about the game to process. A new expansion called Dawntrail is coming soon and with it a lot of exciting features that players can look forward to. The devs took advantage of all the fan excitement, using the 2023 Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival as a platform to answer questions about Dawntrail, reveal upcoming content in the current expansion, and talk about the future of Final Fantasy 14 as a whole.

As reported by Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, the director of Final Fantasy 14, Naoki Yoshida, talked about the possibility of creating an animated or television series based on the MMORPG in a joint interview. Yoshida revealed that he is open to the idea and would possibly like to do so. However, given the many positions Yoshida is holding within Square Enix, he does not think it is possible to undertake the task for the time being. Fans will probably remember that aside from being the director of FF14, he is the Head of Creative Business Unit III, which is responsible for Final Fantasy 16, as well as part of the company's Final Fantasy Committee.

Fortunately, it seems Yoshida is not completely closing doors to a possible Final Fantasy 14 anime or TV series, stating that the MMORPG has not denied any requests yet. In fact, he shares that they already have inquiries about such a project. However, he currently does not seem to have any plans to push through with it but reassures the fans that, if and when he does, Square Enix will deliver "something of solid quality."

Players will likely recall that a Korean animated commercial for Final Fantasy 14 was released some time ago, and this indicates the type of quality the game's team will probably deliver when they finally decide to make an anime or television series. Until then, fans will have to be satisfied with the already confirmed upcoming Final Fantasy 14 content the devs are promising to implement.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
