There are five side quests available in Chapter 2 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, one of which is called Lifeline in Peril. It requires players to check in on a so-called mercenary who promised the Mayor of Kalm that they'd repair a broken mako pipeline but then disappeared off the face of the earth.

There are five side quests in Chapter 2 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but players won't have access to all of them right away.

Like so many other side quests in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Cloud and his friends end up having to do the dirty work, which, in this case, involves finding the parts needed to repair the pipeline and defeating a bunch of monsters. Thankfully, though, the rewards for completing Lifeline in Peril are pretty good, which makes up for this somewhat.

Players can start the Lifeline in Peril Side quest by speaking with the Mayor of Kalm in the center of town, though only after unlocking fast travel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. After they agree to help out, Mayor Fritz will ask players to head to the old warehouse outside of town to check up on the underperforming mercenary, which is exactly what they'll want to do next. The warehouse in question is to the southwest of Kalm and is highlighted on the map by a green quest marker.

Upon their arrival at the warehouse, players will learn that the hot shot merc that Mayor Fritz was talking about is none other than Kyrie: one of several supporting characters from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Sadly, she hasn't changed a bit since the last game and manages to talk Cloud and the party into gathering up the parts needed to repair the broken pipeline rather than doing it herself. The only saving grace is that they are all nearby and are clearly marked on the player's map.

After gathering up parts from the four marked locations, players will need to return to Kyrie at the warehouse and then follow her down to the leaky pipeline. Once there, they'll have to defeat two groups of Noxicaps, which becomes a lot easier after learning that Noxicaps are weak to fire attacks. Players can then return to Fritz in the center of Kalm to claim their rewards, which include 3,000 Gil, 10 party EXP, 600 EXP, and a deepened relationship with Barret.
