Although it may not be a true open-world game in the traditional sense, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth boasts more than its fair share of wide, open areas. As a result, fast travel plays a fairly important role in proceedings, allowing players to get from one side of an area to another in a matter of seconds, courtesy of the PlayStation 5's lightning-fast loading times.

The first open-world-style area that players will find themselves in is The Grasslands, which serves as the main setting for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's second chapter, A New Journey Begins. Sadly, players won't be able to use fast travel right from the get-go, though it won't take them too long to unlock it, providing they don't get too distracted by the many side activities that surround them.

Players will unlock fast travel after arriving at Chocobo Bill's Ranch and recapturing the runaway Chocobo, Piko. Upon doing so, they'll need to speak with Billy and then take part in a relatively simple race around the perimeter of the ranch, after which, fast travel will be unlocked. Players will also gain access to some of The Grasslands' side quests and odd jobs at this time. The first of these is called Flowers from the Hill and can be triggered by speaking with Chloe at the ranch.

How to Fast Travel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In order to actually use fast travel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, players will need to open up their map and then select one of the area's unlocked waypoints. These include towns and settlements, activated remnawave towers, and various other completed world intel locations. Players will also be able to travel to Chocobo Stops after they've captured the region's Chocobo, though will first need to find and repair the stops by holding the Triangle button while standing next to the broken sign. Upon doing so, they'll be able to teleport to repaired Chocobo Stops just as they would with any other fast travel location in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Certain fast travel locations will allow players to arrive at their destination on Chocoboback, which can save quite a bit of time in certain situations.
