When players first pass through the area during Chapter 4 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, they'll only have access to five Junon Region side quests. However, if they return to the region during the game's twelfth chapter, they'll find that two new side quests have become available, one of which is called Beneath Still Waters.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: All Chapter 12 Side Quests (& How to Complete Them)

There are eleven side quests in Chapter 12 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, requiring players to return to each of the game's main open-world regions.

Beneath Still Waters sees Cloud and the rest of the party reuniting with some of their Seventh Infantry buddies and working together with them to track down and neutralize a fairly dangerous fiend. The tracking part is pretty straightforward, though defeating the Hell Rider II may prove tricky for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players who don't know what they're doing.

How to Start the Beneath Still Waters Side Quest in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Players will be able to find Beneath Still Waters on the Under Junon Community Noticeboard upon reaching Chapter 12, though only once they've completed the Tides of War and Worry side quest. After accepting the job, they should make their way out to the Crater Cape area, which is to the east of the Scars of War Excavation Intel objective. There, they'll find some members of the Seventh Infantry who have managed to trap a dangerous fiend in the area up ahead. Of course, they want Cloud and the rest of the party to help them destroy it, though this proves to be a lot easier said than done.

How to Beat Hell Rider II in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

The fight with Hell Rider II is broken up into two sections, the first of which is fairly manageable once players realize that Hell Rider II is weak against Ice attacks. Armed with this knowledge, they should be able to make pretty short work of its HP bar, after which, the fiend will flee. Players will then have to track its scent using their Chocobo, which takes them to an area with a damaged Mako transport container, which the Hell Rider II uses to replenish its HP. Players will then need to defeat a Fonadu and a Stormwing, both of which are weak against Wind attacks.

With the smaller fiends taken care of, players will be free to resume their hunt for the Hell Rider II. After following its scent trail again and climbing a few vertical walls with their Chocobo, they'll eventually find the beast holed up in some old ruins. If they approach it, they'll be thrown into another battle, only this one is a lot tougher than the first. This is because Hell Rider II will start the encounter by casting Gravity Well, which makes it immune to many of the player's attacks. As such, players should be sure to bring an orb of Subversion Materia and cast Dispel right away, which will make the fight much easier.

Beneath Still Waters Rewards

Once the Hell Rider II has been slain, some of the Seventh Infantry will show up and thank Cloud and the party for their help. The commander will then reveal that she knew who they were the entire time, but she decides to let them leave without putting up a fight. In fact, she even rewards them for their hard work by providing them with a copy of Telluric Scriptures Vol. VI. Players will also receive 10 Party EXP, 2,400 EXP, and an improved relationship with Aerith for completing the Beneath Still Waters side quest.
