Table of contents

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth features a ridiculous amount of side content, ranging from whacky yet challenging mini-games to more traditional side quests. Players will also be able to track down six mysterious objects known as Protorelics, with one available in each of the game's six main open-world regions.

Every Side Quest in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

There are 36 side quests in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, though not all of them will be available to players right away.

To obtain the Corel Region Protorelic, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players will need to find four Cactuar Rocks and take part in a special Cactuar-themed mini-game called Cactuar Crush. Finding the last two Protorelic missions in the Corel Region can be a little confusing though, as unlike other Phenomenon Intel objectives, they are locked behind main story progress.

Cactuar Rock 1 Location (Corel Region Phenomenon Intel 1)

Players will gain access to the first Corel Region Phenomenon Intel objective following their arrival in the Corel Desert at the beginning of Chapter 9. To get started, they'll need to head toward the sandstorm to the south of the Gold Saucer entrance, which will trigger a cutscene involving a Sand Giant. After that, they'll need to head to the nearby Modular Reactor and pick up the Cactuar Statue, which will guide them toward the first of four Cactuar Rocks. To use the statue, players should hold up on the D-Pad, which will result in the statue emitting a green beam of light that points toward the Cactuar Rock. In this case, the Cactuar Rock is in the rocky area to the east of the Modular Reactor, not far from a Chocobo Stop.

After they find the location of the first Cactuar Rock, players will need to stand in front of it and hold up on the D-Pad, then defeat a group of Orange Cactrots. Once they've done so, they should approach the Cactuar Rock again and press the Triangle button, which will result in Cloud being forced into a ridiculous Cactuar pose. From there, they can head back to the Modular Reactor and make their way inside, where they'll meet a friendly Goblin called Kid G. He'll ask Yuffie to take part in the Cactuar Crush mini-game; the aim of which is to defeat as many Cactuar as possible. For those having trouble, using abilities like Windstorm is arguably the best way to rack up points quickly here.

Cactuar Rock 2 Location (Corel Region Phenomenon Intel 2)

Phenomenon Intel 2 becomes available once players have obtained their first piece of the Corel Region Protorelic and can be found to the east of Alexander Sanctuary 3. Upon their arrival at the Modular Reactor, players will again need to pick up a Cactuar Statue, which will lead them to the second Cactuar Rock. It can be found on a rocky ledge to the east of the region, with players needing to climb up the yellow beams in order to gain access to it. Once there, they'll need to fight a group of Gold Cactuars, after which, they can return to the reactor and play another round of Cactuar Crush. This time, it's Aerith competing, and players will need to use either her Luminous Ward or her Shadow Ward to defeat Lightuars and Darktuars.

When Do the Last Two Corel Protorelic Missions Become Available?

Although they'll be able to complete the first two Corel Region Protorelic missions in Chapter 9, players will need to wait until Chapter 12 before they can complete the last two Corel Region Phenomenon Intel objectives. They won't be unlocked at the start of the chapter either, with players first needing to complete the chapter's big Musclehead Colosseum fight to trigger the call from Kid G. Only then can they complete Corel Region Phenomenon Intel 3 and 4. As for why players are made to wait such a long time to continue the Corel Region Protorelic questline, it likely has something to do with the fact that one of the characters involved in the colosseum fight is also hoping to get their hands on the Protorelic.

Cactuar Rock 3 Location (Corel Region Phenomenon Intel 3)

Upon completing the Musclehead Colosseum fight in Chapter 12, players will be able to visit the third Modular Reactor, which is to the southeast of the Gold Saucer just north of a Chocobo Stop. The corresponding Cactuar Rock is down in a cave to the west not far from the Desert Prison, with players needing to climb down some yellow beams to reach it. Once there, they'll fight a Gigantuar, after which, they can return to the Modular Reactor. There, they'll play another round of Cactuar Crush with Yuffie, with abilities like Wind Current and Banishment once again being the fastest way to earn points. When it comes to the Gigantuars, though, players should wait for them to perform their Body Slam attacks and then hit them while they're down.

Cactuar Rock 4 Location (Corel Region Phenomenon Intel 4)

To complete Phenomenon Intel 4, players will need to make their way to the final Modular Reactor, which is in the southern part of the Corel Region. As for Cactuar Rock 4, it's up on a ledge overlooking the ocean to the east of the reactor, not too far from the location of the Tonberry King fight. To reach it, players should fast travel to the nearby Chocobo Stop and then look for some yellow beams. After climbing them, they'll be able to use the grappling hook to swing across to another area where they'll find the final Cactuar Rock. They'll have to defeat a Gargantuar this time, after which, they'll be free to investigate the Cactuar Rock and then return to the Modular Reactor. There, they'll find another Aerith round of Cactuar Crush waiting for them, with wards once again playing an important role.

How to Beat Kid G and Get the Corel Region Protorelic

Upon completing the final round of Cactuar Crush, Kid G will challenge Cloud and the rest of the party to a fight. He has no weaknesses, but players can pressure him fairly easily by dealing with his post-parry or Goblin Beatdown attacks. The aim here is to stagger him as quickly as possible, as failure to do so within a certain amount of time will lead to him using his Whammo attack, which can have devastating results. Once they've beaten him, players will finally receive the Corel Region Protorelic, which will grant them access to the mysterious Gilgamesh Island and the last four Protorelic missions.
