While JRPGs are always about making progress in terms of a party's strength as well as pushing the story forward, how players want to kit out their characters is up to them. In Final Fantasy 16, that is the case as well, but much of the equipment Clive Rosfield can count on will come via the game's crafting and upgrading systems. That means hunting down the right items that allow for a more powerful piece of gear to become accessible.

To do so, players will have to do more than just enjoy the main affair in the game and partake in some optional content like the Notorious Marks bounty hunt that is being led by the Moogle, Nektar. Of course, these hunts are never easy, and for the S-Rank hunt that is for The Breaker of Worlds in Final Fantasy 16, the creature known as Atlas will not go down without a hefty fight.

Once players have progressed the story to the main quest, Out of the Shadow, head to the bounty hunt board and pick up The Breaker of Worlds Notorious Mark. This will task players with seeking out an ancient construct, an S-Rank enemy who is located in the abandoned town of Cressida. Head north out of Martha's Rest in Rosaria, before going all the way east to find this enemy.

At this point, Atlas will probably be the toughest enemy players will fight, especially with the level gap between it and Clive. To win requires good mastery of the combat system, and being patient when faced with such a powerful opponent. Look out for these attacks:

  • With its big size and even bigger attacks, avoiding damage at all costs is the only way for Clive to survive, especially at lower levels. Staying close to Atlas will see it use melee attacks that are usually extended, so keep moving until the coast is clear.
  • That doesn't mean being further away is an easy time, as Atlas is able to fire off projectiles and use its sword waves to attack. It will even use an AoE attack to blanket an area with energy pillars. Never let the guard down and keep the finger on the dodge button.

  • Once it has been Staggered and its health has been brought down to about half, it will utilize more aggressive versions of its attacks and string them together more.
  • More dangerously, it will use the Golden Section and Saber Dance attacks. The former see it swing an extended version of its sword from side to side, while the latter is a powerful combo that helps it cover a large distance towards Clive.

It is never good to overextend in order to get in some damage, and playing defensively will ensure Clive is able to stay in the fight much longer. As long as dodging is not an issue, the fight is more about attrition rather than outright battle. When Atlas finishes a combo, use the window to unleash Eikonic Abilities to do damage to both its health and Will, and when the Staggered effect happens, attack with all three equipped Eikons and their abilities to take advantage. Heal up whenever Clive's health gets too low to prevent being one-shotted.

It might take a few tries, but eventually, the Breaker of Worlds will be brought down to its mechanical knees. Taking down Atlas will bring rewards of 17250 XP, 120 Ability Points, 20000 Gil, and 50 Renown, together with one Fallen Iron and one Oricorio for crafting purposes.
