With the history of the many games coming before it, Square Enix has made sure that Final Fantasy 16 continues to pay homage to its legacy while forging a new path ahead. While the action-heavy combat is a stark departure from the usual turn-based staple of the genre, players can still find plenty of references and throwbacks to the series' past.

The many enemies that Clive Rosfield will encounter is one way in which the developers have made full use of nostalgia while infusing something new into the proceedings. While slimy enemies are nothing new, those looking to hunt down the much more dangerous Flan Prince in the Muddy Murder bounty hunt in Final Fantasy 16 should definitely prepare for a challenging time.

Where To Find Flan Prince (Muddy Murder) In Final Fantasy 16

Unlocked during the Bolts from the Blue main quest, players can speak to Nektar to attempt this A-rank hunt. The exact location of the Flan Prince is in Rosaria, near Hawk's Cry Cliff. Head north from the Obelisk or east from The Auldhyl Docks to find this enemy resting on top of a hill.

At this point of the game, if players are heading out on this hunt straightaway, the Flan Prince presents a challenge that is unseen just yet. Its mastery of the elements means spells of all kinds are going to be launched at Clive, and its attacks hit hard and cover a large area. So, to succeed, take note of what's coming:

  • The Flan Prince is capable of using Firaga, Blizzaga, and Thunderga to harm Clive. It also uses Tornado and Quake as part of its arsenal. After using any of these spells, it will then leap towards Clive, so prepare for these sequences throughout the fight and get out of the way.

  • While it can cause huge damage by using its gelatinous body to smash into Clive, the most dangerous melee attack is when it forms a palm for Hands Down. The sequence of a one-handed smash, followed by two quick smashes, and then a final leaping smash after a short pause will tear a big chunk of health from Clive. Getting hit once may spell the end for players if the full combo connects, so keep a distance, use Titanic Block, or master dodging to stand a chance.
  • At lower health, the Flan Prince uses Dualcast to combine its elemental attacks, and players will have to be alert to avoid the affected areas before resuming the attack.

The best time to attack the Flan Prince is when it is using its slow projectile. Get up close and start wailing on the enemy as much as possible, before getting into defensive positions.

The reward for emerging victorious over the Flan Prince will be 5200 XP, 95 Ability Points, 12000 Gil, and 30 Renown. The precious Gelatinous Mass will also be added to the inventory, ready to be used at the Blacksmith for crafting.

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively available for PlayStation 5.
