Overcoming the odds when everything is stacked in the other direction is just what heroes and heroines do, and that is where players often find themselves when enjoying a JRPG. In Final Fantasy 16, that is most certainly the case as Clive Rosfield and his allies seek to create a long-lasting peace for the people of Valisthea, but unfortunately, shadowy forces work behind the scenes to prevent that from ever happening.

It is no wonder that Clive's group has to do so much fighting for the greater good, and while the main narrative of the game always introduces a bigger threat, perhaps the most dangerous ones lie outside the mainline content. In Final Fantasy 16, players can opt to pursue Notorious Marks for all sorts of rewards, and those hoping to bring down the Masterless Marauder, otherwise known as the Behemoth King, read on for some key preparation tips.

This hunt will likely be the final one for players who have been consistently cleaning up Valisthea. Once the mark has been picked up at the hideaway, the next thing to do is to locate it. While the in-game description leaves much to be desired, players can skip the thinking and just head directly to the Vidargraes region in Waloed. Just slightly southwest of the Vidargraes Obelisk will be the Behemoth King.

How to Beat Behemoth King in Final Fantasy 16

As an S-rank monster, expect to battle hard against the Masterless Marauder in Final Fantasy 16. The enemy is not keen to cut Clive any slack, so it is vital for players to bring their A-game to the battlefield once everything kicks off. Here's what to look out for:

  • The battle kicks off with the Four Horsemen attack, which sees four comets being dropped onto the field for AoE damage and releasing shockwaves at the same time. The easiest way to prevent any damage is to get into the air using Deadly Embrace or stomp on the Behemoth King to get some height.

  • The Behemoth King can cover the battlefield with lightning strikes, but that's not the main issue. It will follow up with a rush attack during this period, so be alert to dodge when the time comes.
  • Another way the enemy tries to put players at a disadvantage is Maelstrom, which calls forth a tornado that can obscure vision. Avoiding it is easy, but the electrical AoE attacks and a potential rush will cause problems. Keep moving to wait things out.
  • Once players reduce the health of the Behemoth King to about 60%, it will cast Reign of Fire, calling comets down to several areas. Get away from those glowing spots immediately.

  • At slightly less than half health, the Masterless Marauder uses Apocalypse, which sees two waves of Reign of Fire, two Four Horsemen attacks, followed by a giant meteor. When this happens, Clive needs to get out of the way fast.

Attack only when the coast is clear, and use Eikonic Abilities that are quick to execute and have shorter cooldowns to whittle down the boss' Will meter. Once it's Staggered, then go to town using the more powerful abilities.

Completing the difficult task of eliminating the Behemoth King will reward players with 20000 XP, 200 Ability Points, 20000 Gil, and 55 Renown. Furthermore, players will pocket one Orichalcum to use for crafting back at the hideaway.

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively available for PlayStation 5.
