Side quests can be a great way to improve a video game, providing players with a chance to step away from the main story for a little while and cleanse their palates with something new. Side Quests can also be used for additional world-building or further fleshing out a game's narrative. Then there are the side quests that are seemingly designed with no other purpose than to pad out a game's total playtime, giving players a seemingly pointless errand to keep them busy for a little while.

Sadly, some of the side quests in Final Fantasy 16 land squarely in fetch quest territory, with "Make Do and Mend" being one of the very worst offenders. Thankfully, the quest is incredibly short and provides players with a pretty useful reward that can be used to strengthen Clive for the battles to come. With this in mind, it's worth taking a moment to complete "Make Do and Mend", particularly for those who aren't able to utilize Clive's pre-order weapon.

"Make Do and Mend" can first be triggered during the "Hide, Hideaway" main story mission after players have been tasked with making for the Greatwood. To get started, they'll need to speak with the hideaway's Head Carpenter, Geoffroy, who can be found at the far end of the Hideaway opposite the exit that leads to the world map. He's busy trying to shore up the walls and will ask players to fetch him a plank from the nearby White Adze.

Assuming they opted to prioritize the quest, Final Fantasy 16 players will be able to follow the yellow quest marker, which will lead them to an unnamed carpenter over at the aforementioned White Adze. For those having trouble finding it, it's over near The Black Hammer and can be easily spotted on account of the large piles of wood. The carpenter will give Clive permission to take one of the nearby planks, which players can then carry back over to Geoffroy to complete the quest.

After completing "Make Do and Mend", players will receive a Meteorite, a Gil Bug, and 5 XP. The Gil Bug can be sold for 200 Gil, while the Meteorite is required for reinforcing certain weapons and gear pieces over at the forge. In fact, if players completed the other early-game side quest, "Food for Thought", they'll have enough to buy Clive a Broadsword from Charon's Toll and can then head to the forge and use the Meteor they just got to upgrade it to its +1 form. This increases both its Attack and Stagger stats to 90, offering players a nice improvement over Clive's Imperial Infantry Blade.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
