Final Fantasy 16 is an upcoming action RPG that has been developed by Square Enix. The developers are taking things in a completely different direction, and they are extremely confident about the game's success. Final Fantasy 16 is being heavily promoted on social media, and advertisements for the game have been seen on various buses in the United Kingdom.

The combat system in Final Fantasy 16 has been revamped, and players will be able to fight in real-time. There is no longer a need to wait for the completion of a turn for the players to make a move. One of the many things that players will have to learn about is the Will Gauge, which was showcased in the demo.

What is the Will Gauge & How Does it Work?

The Will Gauge is the yellow bar that appears below the health bar of the enemies. It signifies the opponent's will to fight back. While it may not seem all that important at first glance, it is a crucial aspect of the game. By attacking the enemies, Clive is able to make the Will Gauge drop completely. Once it is at zero, the enemies become staggered and are unable to move.

The first use of the Will Gauge is demonstrated in the fight against Murdoch, the Lord Commander of the forces of Rosaria. After attacking Murdoch with melee and magic, his Will Gauge drops to zero, and he becomes incapacitated. Players can use this opportunity to land attacks on him and deal additional damage.

After completing the tutorial, Clive will depart on a mission to eliminate goblins. During the quest, Clive and his two compatriots find a morbol, a ginormous monster that devours the goblin leader.

The morbol is extremely tanky, and it takes a lot of hits to kill him. The best course of action is to attack it and break its will. Subsequently, players can use an Eikonic ability by pressing R2 + Square to deal some hefty damage. There are other methods, such as cinematic strike and cinematic evasion, that require players to push the correct button before time runs out.

After successfully completing a cinematic strike or evasion, the morbol is completely staggered. It seems that these two methods are limited to strong bosses, so players can expect to see them in other fights as well. Needless to say, the Will Gauge mechanic is a solid introduction, and it will prove quite useful as the story moves forward.

Final Fantasy 16 will release on June 22, 2023, and will be exclusively available for PlayStation 5.
