The world of Final Fantasy 16 is quite vast, so players are sure to lose their way from time to time. Normally when this happens, checking one's map is usually the best way to uncover the way forward, but the option to do this won't always be available, as some areas prevent players from accessing the map.

To make matters worse, there are also several instances in Final Fantasy 16 where players won't be able to rely on quest markers to find the way forward. Though it's possible to find the correct path with enough exploring, relying on Torgal's Animal Instincts is the fastest way to progress through these more complex areas.

What Does Animal Instinct Do?

For players who find themselves stuck in one of Final Fantasy 16's more confusing areas, the Animal Instinct ability can be used to easily find a way out. When activated, Torgal will walk to where Clive is expected to go, making it much easier for players to reach the area they're searching for without delay.

When Animal Instinct is active, a symbol of a wolf will appear over Torgal's body and will remain there even after Animal Instinct is no longer in use. What makes this especially useful is that, even when Torgal is out of view, the symbol will remain visible, making it easy for players to follow.

Clive uses Animal Instinct in Final Fantasy 16

If Torgal isn't present when Animal Instinct is activated, the camera will face in the direction of an active quest marker in his stead, giving players a rough idea of where they should go next. There will also be times when Torgal won't repsond when Animal Instinct is in use, but the camera will usually point Clive to where he must go instead. Though this use of Animal Instinct can be extremely handy, the ability is best used when Torgal is present and willing to help.

The Animal Instinct ability is a great asset when players lose access to the map, but it can also be used to find hidden collectibles. To do this, players should avoid following Torgal and instead inspect the area he refused to go to. Doing this will usually lead to an optional area in which Clive can acquire a treasure or two.

How To Use Torgal's Animal Instinct

Using Animal Instinct in Final Fantasy 16

The Animal Instinct ability in Final Fantasy 16 can be used by pressing and holding the L3 analog stick down. To stop using Animal Instinct, all players need to do is let go of L3 or have Clive move.

Animal Instinct can only be activated when standing still, so if Clive moves, players will need to activate the ability again in order to find where they need to go.

Torgal truly is a must-have for those hoping to progress through Final Fantasy 16's more complicated levels, but he's so much more than a mere pathfinder; aside from being a reliable guide, he can also be commanded to attack other enemies. If players wish to thank him for his help, they can interact with him by pressing X to pet him.

Final Fantasy 16 is available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
