Final Fantasy 16 follows Clive Rosfield as he attempts to make Valisthea a better place for Bearers, citizens who are born with the power to cast magic. Unfortunately for him, many disagree with what he's trying to do, and since most won't consider listening to what he has to say, Clive is usually forced to resort to violence.

As Ifrit's Dominant, Clive has access to a variety of fiery abilities that he can use to take his enemies down. Every ability in Final Fantasy 16 has a specific function, and since so many become available while progressing the story, players will likely struggle with choosing which ones to unlock first. The Ignition ability is one of the most useful abilities Clive acquires during Final Fantasy 16's early game, but using it effectively can take a great deal of practice.

What Does The Ignition Ability Do?

When activated, the Ignition ability allows Clive to charge into an enemy while continually damaging them with his sword. If the enemy on the receiving end of this attack is small enough, they will be dragged along by Clive's blade until the attack ends. Ignition also allows players to move Clive around and aim him at enemies, permitting him to attack and drag multiple enemies if he collides with more than one.

The only real downside to Ignition is that it won't drag large enemies, but it can still be used to rapidly decrease these specific enemies' Stagger Meters, which can be extremely useful during Final Fantasy 16's harder battles.

How To Get The Ignition Ability

The Ignition ability is unlocked after completing the Buried Memories main quest and starting The Meaning of Life. At the beginning of this quest, a prompt will appear, informing players that Clive has unlocked Limit Breaks and two Ifrit abilities, the Will-o'-the-Wykes and Ignition.

Ignition can then be purchased for 120 Ability Points via the Abilities tab in the pause menu and assigned to Clive's Eikon loadout via the Gears and Eikons tab. If players are unsatisfied with Ignition after testing it out, they can always Reset the ability to remove it and reclaim the Ability Points they spent on it.

How To Upgrade And Master Ignition

Ignition starts off as a pretty powerful ability, but it can be made even better with enough Ability Points. To upgrade Ignition, players must open the Abilities tab in the pause menu, hover the cursor of the Ignition bubble in the Ifrit skill tree, and hold down the X button.

To acquire the first Ignition upgrade, players must part with 525 Ability Points. Upon doing so, the ability's area of effect increases, increasing the chances of the attack connecting with out-of-reach enemies. Players must spend 1,000 Ability Points to master Ignition, which will allow them to assign the ability to different Eikon slots in the Gear & Eikons tab.

Final Fantasy 16 is available exclusively for PlayStation 5.
