One of the most important items players will ever have access to in a Final Fantasy game is a Potion. Found mostly during the opening chapters of each title, these items can be used to restore a small amount of the protagonist's health and get them back up on their feet. Though players usually end up acquiring better means of health restoration the further they progress, the Potion always serves to be a reliable backup.

At the beginning of Final Fantasy 16, Clive can hold a total of four Potions and three High Potions. Both items can be used to restore his health, but the more players progress, the less useful they become; Clive gains more health the more he levels up, making restorative items feel less effective as a result. Thankfully, there is a way to increase the potency of Final Fantasy 16's restorative items, but the game doesn't make the means of doing so that obvious.

In order for players to increase the amount of health a restorative item can replenish, they need to acquire Morganbeard Extract; to increase the amount again, they must obtain Invigorated Morganbeard Extract.

Both of these unique items are acquired by completing two side quests that only become available later in the story, so players hoping to improve the potency of their items during the early hours of the game will need to keep playing until they reach the After the Storm main quest, wherein the first side quest, The Root of the Problem, becomes available.

During the After the Storm main quest, Clive can find and speak to Nigel, Head Botanist at the Hideaway, who will then ask the protagonist for his help in finding three Morganbeard flowers somewhere in Rosaria. To find where these flowers grow, the player should fast-travel to Martha's Rest, proceed west, then north, and follow the path until they can turn right. Here, the three Morganbeard flowers can be collected.

Once Clive acquires the Morganbeard Flowers, he can return to Nigel, Head Botanist, and interact with him to end the quest. As a reward, Nigel will give Clive the Morganbeard Extract and some Black Blood.

Players hoping to maximize the potency of Clive's potions must complete Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol, a side quest that becomes available during the A Song of Hope main quest. This side quest can be started by speaking to Nigel, Head Botanist in the Hideaway, and agreeing to help him with his search for Morbol Tendrils.

To acquire these tendrils, the player will need to defeat a powerful Morbol named "Carrot." This creature can be found after interacting with the Hunt Board and fast-traveling to the Three Reeds, proceeding west, and taking the first right. Once the beast has been defeated, Clive can return to Nigel, Head Botanist, and interact with him to end the quest.

In exchange for the tendrils, Nigel will give Clive a Goblin Coin and the Invigorated Morganbeard Extract. With both Morganbeard Extracts acquired, Clive's potions will reach full potency.

Acquiring both the Morganbeard Extract and the Invigorated Morganbeard Extract will also increase how long the buffs gained from Strength Tonics, Stoneskin Tonics, and Lionheart Tonics last.

Final Fantasy 16 is available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
