Final Fantasy 16 features a fairly decent assortment of weapons, but some are objectively better than others. Unlike in certain other Final Fantasy games such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the weapons in Final Fantasy 16 do not possess any unique qualities, meaning that it will always come down to which sword has the higher stats.

Final Fantasy 16: Every Accessory (& How to Get Them)

Finding every accessory in Final Fantasy 16 won't be easy. It will, however, provide players with a ridiculous amount of options in battle.

As a result, it's very easy to determine the best weapons in Final Fantasy 16, though actually tracking them down can often be a lot more challenging. Some are handed to the player for progressing through the main story or beating side quests, while others will need to be crafted using hard-to-find materials.

Updated April 21, 2024, by Tom Bowen: With the second DLC expansion now upon us, now seems like the perfect time to take another look at FF16's best weapons. The Rising Tide introduces three new swords for Clive (four, if one counts the Curtana), all of which sit comfortably within the game's top ten blades. In fact, Rising Tide weapons now occupy the top two spots when it comes to the best weapons in Final Fantasy 16, so those looking to take on the game's hardest content will definitely want to give the expansion a look.

Created using the Ice Shard that contains the essence of Shiva's power, the Ice Brand is the penultimate Eikonic Weapon that players will get their hands on in Final Fantasy 16. It boasts 300 Attack and Break stats in its regular form, with those playing the game on Final Fantasy mode able to reforge it to bring both stats up to an impressive 550.

How to Get the Ice Brand in Final Fantasy 16

Players will get the Ice Shard at the end of the "Through the Maelstrom" main story mission following their brief showdown with Odin. Thankfully, they won't have to wait too long to use it, as they'll gain the ability to craft the Ice Brand at the very beginning of the following chapter.

One of several iconic Final Fantasy weapons to make an appearance in Final Fantasy 16, the Masamune becomes available during the final third of the game. The blade, which was perhaps most famously wielded by Sephiroth in the compilation of Final Fantasy 7, has an attack stat of 310 in a regular playthrough and 560 in New Game Plus mode.

How to Get the Masamune in Final Fantasy 16

Players can find the Masamune in a treasure coffer shortly after their arrival on Ash. After passing through Skaithfarr, they'll come to a large bog-like area called The Angry Gap. This area is broken up into two sections, which are separated by a narrow crossing known as Rikimal's Roost. The Masamune is in the western section of the area and can be reached by following a narrow passageway through some rocks to the south.

In addition to regular weapons, Final Fantasy 16 players are able to get their hands on a series of Eikonic blades, which are crafted using the elemental shards dropped by some of the game's Eikons. The Everdark is the last of these weapons and boasts an impressive 315 Attack stat, making it one of the most powerful swords in FF16. While playing on Final Fantasy mode, players will be able to use Flawless materials to get the Everdark Reforged, increasing its Attack and Break stats to a mighty 565.

How to Get the Everdark in Final Fantasy 16

To craft the Everdark, players will need to get their hands on a Dark Shard, which they'll receive after defeating Barnabas at the end of the "The Last King" main story mission. In addition to this, they'll need eight Meteorites, 400 Sharp Fangs, and the previous Eikonic Weapon, the Icebrand. Assuming they have all of these things, the first chance that they'll get to forge the weapon is at the beginning of the "Brotherhood" main story mission.

The legendary blade Ragnarok does not disappoint in Final Fantasy 16, providing players with a monstrous 325 Attack stat. Granted, it does get outclassed eventually, but if players opt to unlock it early, it will remain their weapon of choice for a decent chunk of the game. It's also needed to craft an even more powerful weapon, so players should definitely track it down. In New Game Plus mode, they'll get Ragnarok Reforged instead, which raises the blade's Attack and Break stats up to 575.

How to Get Ragnarok in Final Fantasy 16

Players will be given Ragnarok as a reward for completing the "Blacksmith's Blues IV" side quest, which first becomes available at the beginning of the "Across the Narrow" main story mission. It should perhaps go without saying, but they'll need to have completed the first three parts of the "Blacksmith's Blues" questline before the fourth can be triggered.

The Defender is the last of the main story progress-related weapons that can be crafted or purchased using common materials. One might think that this would place it at a bit of a disadvantage, but it's actually the second-best weapon in Final Fantasy 16; at least before New Game Plus mode, anyway. In a normal playthrough, it can be upgraded twice, bringing its Attack and Break stats up to 340. When playing on Final Fantasy mode, it receives three new forms, with the Reforged version of the Defender boasting 590 stats across the board.

How to Get the Defender in Final Fantasy 16

Players will be able to buy the Defender from Goetz's Toll for 5,000 Gil during the "Streets of Madness" main story mission. After completing the mission, they'll be able to purchase it from other merchants as well as craft and upgrade it at the Black Hammer.

In a standard playthough, the Gotterdammerung is the best sword in Final Fantasy 16. Its stats are more than 10% higher than the nearest contender, making it an easy choice for those looking for a weapon with which to take down Ultima. Its 375 stats rise to 625 in its Reforged form, making this a more than capable weapon in New Game Plus mode as well.

How to Get the Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16

Players will receive the Design Draft for the Gotterdammerung at the same time that they get Ragnarok. However, in order to actually craft the Gotterdammerung, they'll need three pieces of Orichalcum, two pieces of Darksteel, and a Primitive Battlehorn. The latter can be obtained by beating the Gobermouch Notorious Mark, while Darksteel is dropped by both Prince of Death and Thanatos. There are a few side quests that reward players with Orichalcum, but they can also get it from the Atlas, Svarog, Gorgimera, and Behemoth King Notorious Mark hunts.

The Fallen Enforcer is one of two new weapons introduced in the Echoes of the Fallen DLC and one of the strongest swords for Clive in Final Fantasy 16. In a regular playthrough, its Attack and Stagger stats both sit at 390, while the Reforged variant that players acquire while playing on Final Fantasy Mode has 650 in both fields.

How to Get the Fallen Enforcer in Final Fantasy 16

Players will receive the Fallen Forcer as a reward for beating the Sigma mini-boss in the Gallery area of the Sagespire. Clive and his friends will be forced to defeat Sigma on their way to the tower's summit, so players don't need to worry about missing out on the Fallen Enforcer.

Given that the Rising Tide DLC introduces a bunch of new Eikonic Abilities for Clive, it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to learn that Leviathan also brings with it its own Eikonic blade. It's the strongest of the eight, and a solid option for those playing through the expansion on the Action-Focussed difficulty setting. A more powerful sword does become available towards the end of the expansion, but until then, the Tidestrike can definitely do a job.

How to Get the Tidestrike in Final Fantasy 16

Players will be able to craft the Tidestrike after defeating the Perykos mini-boss near the beginning of the Rising Tide expansion. To do so, they'll need an Aqueous Orb, 75 Wyrrite, and 75 Magicked Ash. For anybody wondering, the Aqueous Orb is obtained by beating Perykos, so players should be in a position to craft the Tidestrike right away.

Ultima Weapon

For the most part, a New Game Plus run of Final Fantasy 16 isn't all that different from a regular one, though there are a few key differences. The most notable of these is perhaps Ultima Weapon; a Final Fantasy mode-exclusive blade that puts all of the other swords in the game to shame. Its Attack and Break stats sit at an unstoppable 700, making Ultima Weapon one of the very best FF16 weapons.

How to Get Ultima Weapon in Final Fantasy 16

As mentioned above, players can only get Ultima Weapon while playing on Final Fantasy mode, which can only be selected during New Game Plus mode runs. To craft it, they'll need the Utterance of Creation, the Everdark Reforged, and the Gotterdammerung Reforged. They'll get the former after defeating Ultima at the end of their first playthrough, while the Reforged versions of the two blades are crafted in much the same way as their non-Reforged counterparts, just with Flawless variants of some of the crafting materials.

Ultima Weapon is a fantastic sword, but the fact that it can only be obtained while playing the game on Final Fantasy Mode means that a lot of players will never get their hands on it. Thankfully, those players can still get a taste of what it feels like to wield absolute power courtesy of the Omega Weapon. It has 410 Attack and Stagger stats in its base form, with both increasing to 700 while playing on Final Fantasy Mode. This makes it the joint most powerful weapon in Final Fantasy 16 in New Game Plus mode and the very best FF16 sword for a standard playthrough.

How to Get Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy 16

Players will be able to craft the Omega Weapon after defeating the final boss of the Echoes of the Fallen DLC. To do so, they'll need the Fallen Enforcer, an Omega Nodule, a Living Tissue, and an Aqueous Humour; all of which will be obtained automatically as players make their way through the expansion.

Original Sin

Like the Ultima Weapon before it, the Original Sin can only be acquired while playing the game on Final Fantasy mode. It has the highest attack stat in the game, so, on paper, at least, is the strongest FF16 sword available. However, by the time players have gotten their hands on it, they probably won't have too much use for such a deadly blade. Of course, it's still well worth acquiring, if only for the bragging rights.

How to Get the Original Sin in Final Fantasy 16

Players will be able to craft the Original Sin after completing the main story of The Rising Tide. To do so, they'll need the Ultima Weapon, the Tidestrike Reforged, an Opportunity, and a Flawless Water Shard. For those wondering, the Opportunity can only be acquired by completing all twenty Circles of Kairos Gate while playing on Final Fantasy mode.

Some will perhaps argue that the Original Sin is the best weapon in Final Fantasy 16 due to its superior attack stat. However, when combined, the Tonberry Knife +1 boasts the same base stat total as the Original Sin despite being much easier to acquire. What's more, the Tonberry Knife can be obtained during a regular playthrough, meaning that those who don't have time to delve into Final Fantasy mode can still get their hands on it. As a result, many see the Tonberry Knife as the best sword in FF16, though there really isn't too much in it.

How to Get the Tonberry Knife in Final Fantasy 16

Players will be able to craft the Tonberry Knife after beating the Master Tonberry mini-boss at The Aire of Hours as part of The Rising Tide's main story. To do so, they'll need a Notched Tang, an Aqueous Membrane, two pieces of Orichalcum, and two pieces of Fool's Gold. Those first two ingredients are tied to Notorious Mark hunts though, so getting the Tonberry Knife is far from easy.
