In most Final Fantasy titles, players are usually free to collect up to 99 items and store them all in the protagonist's inventory. This isn't the case in Final Fantasy 16, however, as Clive only ever has access to a select few and will be forced to use any excess items he finds if his inventory is already full of them.

Players will likely come to rely heavily on healing items during their Final Fantasy 16 playthrough, but since Clive can't carry too many at the beginning of the game's story, the option to heal won't always be available. Thankfully, there are two items players can use to increase Clive's inventory, but acquiring them can take some serious effort.

While playing through Final Fantasy 16's opening, players will quickly learn that Clive's inventory is a little limited; he can only hold four Potions, three High Potions, two Stoneskin Tonics, and two Strength Tonics.

While this isn't an overly irksome restriction at the beginning of the game, players will eventually find themselves needing to use more healables as they progress through the story. Players who wish to increase the number of items Clive has access to must first acquire the Treated Potion Satchel and then the Expanded Potion Satchel, two unique items that are only obtained by completing specific side quests.

How To Get The Treated Potion Satchel

The Treated Potion Satchel can be obtained by completing Weird Science, a side quest that becomes available during Letting Off Steam 3, Final Fantasy 16's forty-seventh main quest.

The Weird Science side quest requires Clive to seek out the Bomb King, defeat it, and bring the creature's ash back to Owain, Engineer. As a reward for Clive's work, Owain will reward him with a Treated Potion Satchel and a Black Hood.

Once the Treated Potion Satchel has been acquired, Clive will be able to carry six Potions, four High Potions, three Stoneskin Tonics, and three Strength Tonics.

Acquiring the Treated Potion Satchel can make a big difference for players who regularly find themselves running out of items, but those who wish to carry even more should seek out the Expanded Potion Satchel. Clive will acquire this item upon completing Even Weirder Science, a side quest that becomes available during Across the Narrow, the sixty-second main quest in Final Fantasy 16.

All Spherical Echo Locations:

The Even Weirder Science side quest requires Clive to travel to three different locations and collect a Spherical Echo in each of them.

  • The First Spherical Echo: Found by heading southeast from the Krozjit Echofast-travel point.
  • The Second Spherical Echo: Found by heading north from the Hawk's Cry Cliff, proceeding through Shallop Rock, and turning left.
  • The Third Spherical Echo: Found by heading southwest from the Northreach fast-travel point and proceeding into the dead end.

Once Clive has acquired each of the three Spherical Echoes, he can return to Owain to complete the Even Weirder Science side quest. To thank Clive for his assistance, Owain will reward him with the Expanded Potion Satchel and a Goblin Coin.

With the Expanded Potion Satchel, Clive can carry eight Potions, five High Potions, four Stoneskin Tonics, and four Strength Tonics.

Final Fantasy 16 is now available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
