The very idea of death is something that the JRPG genre has always explored in one way or another, and that is also the case in Final Fantasy 16. For protagonist Clive Rosfield, his journey from youth to adult has been colored by the inescapable crimson of death, but that doesn't mean he will just take it lying down. His will to survive and desire to do right by his friends and family are what makes him such a compelling character.

Of course, it wouldn't be that easy of a task, considering that the universe continues to place obstacle after obstacle in his path. While there are already plenty of battles to be had in the main storyline, players pursuing the Notorious Marks bounty hunts will find more to hone their blade against. The battle against the Grim Reaper, otherwise known as the Prince of Death, is one such fight in Final Fantasy 16, and here's what players need to know before jumping in.

Once players are able to pick up this hunt back at the hideaway, make all the necessary preparation in terms of healing items and useful buffs. Then, fast travel to Northreach in Sanbreque and start heading north out of the city before going west to Cape Orsiere. On a hill will be the Prince of Deah.

How to Beat Prince of Death in Final Fantasy 16

The Grim Reaper/Prince of Death is similar to the Lich enemies that often appear alongside Akashic enemies and attack in a familiar way as well. However, this A-rank foe boasts more fatal moves and tends to move faster and hit stronger than those players might be accustomed to. It is, therefore, wise to heed the following advice:

  • The Prince of Death is fond of using its scythe to attack Clive up close, and to dodge the attacks effectively, be a little more patient to avoid getting caught by the delayed slices.
  • At range, it can also use its scythe to send damaging waves at Clive. This will come in threes, so keep moving or use Heatwave to counter the projectiles.

  • At low health, it uses Soul Harvest, which will unleash a prolonged combo of swipes, smashes, and teleports. Don't get too eager to attack; always wait and dodge, and only counterattack once the attack has ended.
  • The Prince of Death will also start throwing its scythe, creating a gravity field at the point of impact. Get out of the way to keep Clive safe.

Overcoming the Prince of Death will see players obtain 8000 XP, 100 Ability Points, 15000 Gil, and 45 Renown. As an added bonus, the valuable Darksteel crafting material will also be rewarded to players for winning the tough fight.

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively available for PlayStation 5.
