There are just certain things fans have come to expect from the Final Fantasy series. Moogles are one, perhaps a Cactuar enemy here and there, and definitely, Chocobos, whose cheery nature and colorful feathers always light up any place they are in. Thankfully, the big birds make their presence felt in Final Fantasy 16, where hero Clive gets to ride one as his mount.

That said, not all Chocobos are going to be as obedient and loyal as the white-winged wonder, Ambrosia. In fact, many of the birds in the wild can turn aggressive and attack people throughout Valisthea. The most menacing one of them all is Dread Comet, who patrols the Dhalmekian desert with considerable force in Final Fantasy 16. The time to take down this beast is now.

Where To Find Dread Comet In Final Fantasy 16

After reaching the Evenfall main quest in Final Fantasy 16, players have the option of picking up the Notorious Mark of Dread Comet. This will lead them to the Dhalmekian desert, in between the regions of The Sickle and The Fields of Carava. The bright red plume of the creature should be easily spotted among the sands.

How to Beat Dread Comet in Final Fantasy 16

Unlike the other hunts, the Dread Comet doesn't come with a Will meter, which means that it cannot be Staggered for players to do increased damage. However, this means that the creature is more susceptible to interrupting attacks.

  • Watch out for its attacks with its feet, which can come fast and heavy. Avoid getting overwhelmed by either dodging to the back or sidestepping it for an opportunity to counterattack.
  • Keep up the pressure and attack constantly with strong Eikonic Abilities to cause Dread Comet to be caught in a loop. This will allow for sustained damage without any danger to Clive.
  • Once its health has taken a beating, Dread Comet lives up to its name by using the move Choco Meteor. This causes meteors to hit the indicated areas of the ground, which then causes shockwaves. This can be very dangerous if players are constantly caught by the shockwaves, so get ready to jump whenever it happens.

  • Even more dangerous is the enhanced Choco Meteorain, which calls in even more planetary objects to shower on the battlefield. Be alert, and keep dodging and jumping to prevent any lasting damage.

Not being able to cause Dread Comet to be Staggered means there is no time for a rest, so remember to heal up, especially when getting damaged by the shockwaves. Be aggressive, and in the end, Clive will come out on top.

The spoils of this hunt include 5300 XP, 90 Ability Points, 13000 Gil, and 30 Renown, players will also receive one Comet Feather for use at the Blacksmith.

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively available for PlayStation 5.
