To start a side quest in Final Fantasy 16, Clive usually has to find and interact with a specific NPC, but this isn't always the case; some can actually be started by returning to Clive's Chambers and examining the letters on his Reading Table. The Blacksmith's Blues 2 side quest is one such quest, but players won't have access to it until they have first completed all three Letting Off Steam sub-objectives during the Out of the Shadow main quest.

The About Blackthorne letter in Final Fantasy 16

Upon accepting the side quest, Clive should leave his chambers and turn left into The Black Hammer, where Blackthorne can be seen hammering away on his anvil. Interacting with him, he will tell Clive that he recently saw a blade that made him question his skills. Once the conversation ends, Clive can backtrack to the Main Deck to speak to Charon, who will tell the protagonist that she sold the blade in question to a man named Lord Ignac.

Clive prepares to fight three Bedmakers and The Innkeeper in Final Fantasy 16

When Clive arrives in this sandy corner, he will be attacked by three Level 30 Bedmakers and a tougher enemy known as The Innkeeper, who is also Level 30. The Bedmakers tend to rely on projectile attacks, so Clive should focus on bringing them down first. Most of The Innkeeper's attacks are slow and easy to predict, so unless Clive is underleveled, he should be able to defeat him with relative ease.

Once all enemies have been defeated, Clive will be transported back to The Dalimil Inn, where he will return what the bandits stole from Ignac. Though Ignac doesn't give Clive the blade he was after, he does provide him with a Sundered Whetstone, which can be used to create it. When the cutscene ends, Clive can fast-travel back to The Hideaway and interact with Blackthorne to give the Sundered Whetstone to him.
