Clive and his pals make a lot of new allies as they liberate the people of Valisthea from the power of the Mother Crystals, but they also make their fair share of enemies. Most of these are nameless grunts who are quickly dispatched in battle, but, every once in a while, Final Fantasy 16 players will come face to face with one of these people out in the field.

At first, it seems as though the "Bad Blood" side quest is just another mindless rescue mission, but things take a turn toward the end. Rather than another grateful civilian, players are met by an angry soldier with a score to settle and must choose whether to meet him in battle or walk away and do nothing.

How to Complete Bad Blood in Final Fantasy 16

Players will first be able to trigger the "Bad Blood" side quest during the "Cloak and Dagger" main story mission of Final Fantasy 16. To do so, they'll need to speak with the wounded Republican soldier, who can be found on the road to Tabor. He'll explain that an aether flood consumed his unit's encampment and ask Clive to kill those who were consumed by it so that they can't hurt anybody else.

After the soldier breathes his last, players should follow the path ahead of them, sticking to the left wall once it starts to open up. Eventually, they'll see the tell-tale signs of an aether flood over to their left and should head towards the herd of Akashic enemies and put them out of their misery. It turns out that not everybody succumbed to the aether though, with one soldier managing to escape the encampment and claw his way up a nearby hill.

The quest marker will lead players to another dying Republican soldier. Speaking with him will bring the "Bad Blood" side quest to an end and players will receive 1,035 XP, 25 Renown, 100 Magicked Ash, and a Meteorite for their trouble. As Clive begins to walk away though, the soldier will recognize him as the one who killed many of his comrades in Kostnice and Rosalith. He wants to fight, at which point, players will be given a choice.

"He can barely stand" or "Fine. If you insist"

Players will need to decide between "He can barely stand" or "Fine. If you insist". Unfortunately, as with a lot of the other FF16 side quests in which players need to make a decision, the final outcome remains the same regardless of which option players choose. Clive refuses to fight the injured man, who in turn vows that he will someday find Clive and have his revenge.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
