Despite the last Mothercrystal being destroyed in the previous main scenario quest of Final Fantasy 16, Ultima's plans have not been stopped. Out of the blue, a large floating crystal known as Origin appears in the sky. While the intent behind Origin is unclear to Clive and his allies, they know that it can't be any good. The next main scenario quest, "Back to Their Origin", is the second to last quest in Final Fantasy 16.

Since this is a short quest, it has been combined with the walkthrough for the final main scenario quest "Of Gods and Men", which is essentially just the final battle against Ultima. Here is what players can expect as they begin the final two main scenario quests of Final Fantasy 16.

This walkthrough contains significant spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Talk to Otto

Speak to Otto to trigger a cutscene where Clive and the others have an all hands on deck meeting about what to do regarding the floating crystal that Ultima summoned. Once the meeting is over, find Joshua and speak to him. Following a cutscene, find Jill and talk to her to trigger another cutscene. After this, the objective will update and prompt players to travel to Origin.

Of course, since this will lead to the final battle of Final Fantasy 16, players will want to make sure they are as ready as they possibly can be. Purchase any supplies needed from Charon, especially Last Elixir. Blackthorne has some new armor that will be decent upgrades if players have not made any of the Ouroboros gear. In addition, players may want to take this time to craft Gotterdammerung if they haven't already.

Acquiring endgame gear aside, there are also several last minute side quests that players can pursue by obtaining them from the reading table. One is "More than Words", and the other one is "An Inconvenient Truth". Once sufficient preparations have been made, open the map and travel to Origin. After several cutscenes, a boss fight will begin.

Following a series of Cinematic Strikes and Cinematic Evasions, players will have defeated Ultima Prime. Of course, this is only the beginning of the final battle against Ultima as the next main scenario quest "Of Gods and Men" begins.

How to Beat Ultima

After the cutscene ends, go toward the doorway. Keep going forward until another cutscene plays. As it ends, the final battle begins. The first thing that players should watch out for is when Ultima casts Flare. Move as far back away from Ultima as possible to avoid getting hit. Ultima will also cast Holy, which creates a circle on the ground with several lines shooting out from it. Stay out of this shape to avoid taking damage.

Once Ultima reaches 60% health, phase two of the battle begins. Ultima will fly around the arena and shoot projectiles at players. Dodge and then move in to attack. During this phase Ultima will begin to cast, well, Ultima. This attack is difficult to dodge, but it doesn't do much damage. Ultima will also periodically cast Meteor, which can be dodged by staying out of the red circles that appear on the ground.

Even as Ultima's health falls to zero, the fight is not done yet. Ultima is livid that the fight is not going his way and transforms into Ultima Risen. After a Cinematic Clash sequence, players will transform into Ifrit. During this final Eikon battle, focus on dodging Ultima's attacks while going on the offensive between his attacks. At 50% health, Ultima will cast the Rapture. Foucs on dodging the attack and then go back on the offensive once it is over.

As the fight progresses, Ultima will cast an ability with a purple bar. Be aggressive but also be ready to dodge as Ultima will still be attacking while his big attack charges. A countdown will begin soon after and players must break the bar before it finishes. Once the attack is interrupted, Ultima will cast the Rapture again. Dodge this attack and keep fighting. Ultima will soon cast Pulsar which releases a wave of beams in a circle. Dodge this while attacking if possible. Keep up the offensive until Ultima's health goes down to zero again.

How to Beat Ultimalius

As is tradition in Final Fantasy games, the final boss has multiple forms. Backed into a corner, Ultima transforms again into an entity called Ultimalius. Ultimalius's primary attack is creating circles on the ground that then explode few seconds later. Be mindful of where they are while fighting him. When Ultimalius casts Heaven's Embrace, prepare for him to charge forward and dodge it.

Periodically, Ultimalius will cast Cataclysm. A circle will appear and shoot up a series of rock pillars. The circle will then grow wider and move outward toward the arena. Wait for the first circle to disappear and then move toward the boss to avoid getting hit.

As Ultimalius reaches 70% health, a series of Cinematic Clashes will occur and the fight will continue afterward. During this second phase, Ultiamalius will cast Exaflare which shoots a beam directly ahead of him. Dodge this attack and then move into strike. This is followed up by Boreal Rhaphsody and Severance, both of which are fairly easy to dodge. He will then begin to chain these abilities together, leaving players with little room to work with.

As the fight progresses and Ultimalius reaches 50%, another series of Cinematic Clashes will occur. At this point, Ultimalius enrages and casts Limit Break as phase three commences. During this phase, Ultimalius will use most of the abilities that he used during phase one. But as Ultiamalius begins to take enough damage, he will cast the Flames of Creation. He will be too far out of range to do effective damage, so just focus on dodging the giant blue meteor that comes crashing down.

As Ultiamalius falls to 15% another Cinematic Clash will occur and the fight will continue. Deplete the rest of his health and complete a Cinematic Clash to slay Ultimalius. Congratulations on beating Final Fantasy 16!

All that is left to do from here is to sit back and enjoy the ending. Once the credits roll, players will have the option to save clear data and begin the game again on a higher difficulty if they want a new challenge.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now on PlayStation 5.
